Step 2: every few miles make a hughe pole/ tower/ whatever, color it ant attach a few lamps on top.
Step 3: repeat it with another color.
There are 10 colors in game. Use them numbered so you know when you cross a "yello tower" this means you are e.g. 4 colors away from your base.
i hope that will help
But if you want to "draw" a map, simply build hugeass towers, look down and "draw" a map ^^
There are at least 2 different render distances....The render distance in the menu is for the world, but there is a separate one for player-made creations. Even though I can clearly see the building that I put a tower on, I can't see the tower that I built until I'm much closer. I looked in the game's files to see if I could find a way to change it but didn't find anything, though it may still be there somewhere and I just can't see lol
I'm not saying it's a bad idea or anything, just note how close your towers need to be so you can see from one to the other(s). :)
I thought about drawing a map on paper lol but then I realized the world is really big...I discovered like 10 warehouses and I don't think I'm done yet...
What I did was make a sign at every street corner...I went down each road, and when I came to a warehouse, I put a sign on the wall with a number. I did the same on the other side, because sometimes there's a different road there too. Then go back and add a number to the road sign. The signs are made of blocks, so I try not to put too much wording on it...just a number for a warehouse...M1 or M2 for a mechanic station, X for a dead end, etc.
I have also noticed that when you put a creation on a lift, it points the creation in its original direction. Sometimes it doesn't and instead saves the last direction instead, but just put the lift down with nothing on it to reset this. Anyway, this could help as a pseudo-compass. :) Of course, since the sun never moves, you can always use that as a compass too...
