The politic's of Steam deppends thats the even new user's must buy at least one game in-order to playing in any F2P games...Isn't it?
I did disable the in-game Steam overlay, and my framerate issue disappeared.
I did the following tests to see if I can replicate the issue on my rig:
-Exited game, enabled Steam overlay, entered game. Frame rate choppy
-Exited game, disabled Steam Overlay, entered game. Frame rate OK.
-Exited game, enabled Steam Overlay, entered game. Frame rate choppy
-In game, pressed shift-tab to open the overlay, closed after it loaded, Frame rate OK
I repeated the last step several times, all with the same result.
Based on this, it seems to me as though the issue isn't with steam beta participation, but with the Steam Overlay itself.
