Scrap Mechanic

Scrap Mechanic

Other games like Scrap Mechanic?
My kid loves this game but it's so janky and glitchy. The physics go haywire and frame rate drops randomly. I get that it may be the nods too. I love the aesthetics and concept but was hoping there might be others out there like it. Thanks.

satisfactory has got the same kind of future tech-y aesthetic and a ton of creativity when it comes to building, but unfortunately scrap mechanic is almost one-of-a-kind.

you could keep an eye on gearblocks for when it releases in november, it's much more complex compared to scrap mechanic as the only way you can make a working vehicle is with actual gears and whatnot like you would in real life, but so far the game is looking very promising.

I always thought Trailmakers https://store.steampowered.com/app/585420/Trailmakers/ was similar to Scrap Mechanic with a different type of survival mode, but definitely similar build mechanics and more stable.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts - If you have a Xbox. This game is about building meaningful vehicles to solve diverse puzzles in a story driven kinda magical, lovely builden up world. Discovering the world is a fantastic feautre aswell. (really Child and I guess adult friendly Game aswell)

Besiege - A kind of a complex game which focuses in realism, destruction, especially in Puzzle solving and got Multiplayer. This game is more for those who are patient and really loves the building process itself and enjoying to think like a engineer - because rebuilding things while consider realism (wind, heavyness, armor, pressure/tension on materials, ...) happened a lot to me in this game. Like - (maybe) Most of the time you are (at least myself) in building mode probably just to learn how things interact best with each other.
And in it's current state, this game is "perfectly" finished.

Trailmakers is a great alt for Scrap Mechanic. It's similar enough to Scrap Mechanic to scratch that creative itch, but it's different enough to feel new. It doesn't have a survival mode, but it does have two open world career modes and a bunch of races for different vehicle types with global leader boards.
There's Besiege, which is also great, but it has linear missions instead of open worlds. Although those missions do encourage a great deal of creativity.
More recently we have Hello Engineer. It's essentially a very poor mans Besiege. It's almost entirely races and obstacle courses loosely tied together with cut scenes in the Hello neighbour universe.

I played Raft with my daughter extensively. It's similar to Scrap Mechanic with gathering/crafting focus but it has a strong quest story too and frankly it's a lot easier which means more play. Easily the best gaming experience we've had together. Amazing modding community too which are really easy to load.

Main Assembly creative mode is cool (the game may have been abandoned by devs, which explains the current mixed reviews, but it was already fun enough when I played it about a year ago). It has a very flexible system for building vehicle frames so they look smooth rather than blocky, unlike a lot of other engineering games, and you can use logic programming and key mapping to control the creations. Wings can be curved to provide lift. I've seen videos of people who made ornithopters, something I've wanted to make since I was a kid.

RoboCo looks fun, a robot building game with a purpose and a funny aesthetic. Though if I remember right, I saw in a video that the physics will freak out sometimes, but maybe they would have fixed that by now.

Stormworks: Build and Rescue looks cool, though maybe a bit complex. Build working vehicles to perform rescue operations.

Space Engineers could be good, though maybe a bit advanced and overwhelming.

Instruments of Destruction might be cool (similar to Besiege).

Kerbal Space Program, it's a little complex but it's in depth. It's more so sandbox and trial and error oriented, if you're into that.
You can try Mechanical Lab with similar building concept
stationeers. mining, crafting, building. you land on a moon or planet and proceed to build a base and survive. Has a lot of granularity to the build system and logic systems from simple to programmable.
Asking for a game like scrap mechanic for his kid to play and stationeers is your suggestion ?! What ?
