IMHO survival kinda sucks right now. But you can have a lot of fun building stuff in creative.
that video isnt how to manually save its showing how you 'backup' your saves, which i encourage you to do. regularly 'replace' them after every session. so after you have just spent several hours building a vehicle ( id suggest doing this inbetween aswell actually) , exit your game and copy the save to another folder
its got me out many troubles. so its worth knowing how to do it.
I've yet to have anything game breaking that splatted my game. However I do not use any survival mods at all, short of an occasional dev command so I can get bricks from warehouses that I've completed.
