Scrap Mechanic

Any tips for farming?
I've been playing this game for 48h so i'm not that far in

I haven't even got the spudgun yet but I have 167 useless potatoes just sitting in my fridge
I am usually lucky to get 10 crops of 40
how do I farm? I tried doing it on an island but they just spawned on the island

I don't have enough resources to build a wall
all I have is this dinky 3 tall 4 thick border made out of a lot of different building materials

If you plant only 9 crops or less, there will not be a raid so just stick to 9 crops or less until you have the resources to build defences.

Now i haven't played survival in a while so this might have changed since the last time i played but i wouldn't think so.

I tried it with a 3x3 configuration and I didn't get a timer but they still attacked

BeetRoot, Carrot, and Tomatoe have value of 1
Potato and Cotton have value of 1.5
Banana, Orange, and Blueberry have value of 2

if total farm value is 10 or more, you will get a raid.

A wall really only needs to be at the third and 5th block level from the ground, and that will let you attack through the gap between. Haybots can go over a 3 block wall, which is why the 5th block level needs to be there.

Ah, I planted 6 oranges and 3 tomatoes so that's why

resist planting higher tier crops until you get better materials to use for defence. best type of defence early game (and overall, IMO) is making platforms, 4 - 5 blocks high then the platform needs to be roughly the same 4 -5 blocks wide. i use the scrap wood and net block for this (easily acquired from the scrap shacks). then when i can, upgrade to concrete and/or metal.

this allows you to swing your hammer damaging the bots, but they cant hit you and they will need to get through 4 -5 blocks, before even getting to your 'main' wall.

saws/drills are also good to deter bots. but ive found, when you have built up a strong enough wall etc, you want them to come close and gather so its easier to pick up all the pieces after.

i use saws on the sides, in case i dont see some incoming bots, the saws will keep them from wacking your wall until you discover them or they run away after the raid

those 167 'useless' potatoes sitting in your fridge will turn out very useful in the end. the only thing useless about it is putting them in the fridge. just place them on the ground, out of the way til you need them

10 crops of 40?? does this mean that the bots get in and damage your crops??

yeah, just dont have a bigger farm that you cant even defend. start with 8 plots or less, then slowly increase it as you go and acquire more materials to start building round it.

I am trying to grow a bunch of oranges and blueberries so I can get the spudgun
I already have over 20 oranges I just need to get some blueberry seeds and then I can buy it from the trader. Though I will need to make a better vehicle with its main purpose being hauling crates because a small chicken wire trailer with low travel is not going to cut it
Also I have been separating my 4 plots by a bunch so I can grow as much as possible at once

I re started and is not too good at it, been saving up orange and blue until I get some seeds of them.
For farm, a defense,  I been using a crash with anything I can basically can grab.

Is the defense I have copy and using

Is mine

Is my vehicle I am using so far

For defense, I guess you can to defend as you slowly gain resources for stuff, buckets of water can stunt the haybots for a short time and you can use the building for wood that you can find near roads that have some seeds and dirt.

Sorry, I dont know how to do those pic like you guys but I think you could look on my profile for some pic but germinight Video on YouTube helps me

It took me around 15 or 20 game days before I have the resources for a defense, I had start off getting enough food items to keep me alive mostly Mike as I try to farm resources for the defense and if not wanting a stronger raids, the raid get stronger when farming nonstop, so probably stop farming in the same spot for 1 or 2 whole game day for every 2 nonstop farming you do since I think the 3rd night might be the strongest of the 3

you have to upload them via steam 'make public' then when you click on them it will give you options, if you click 'share' copy then paste the link in your post

Honestly and as rude as this sounds it is what it is. But I really don't think you should be focusing on farming until you have the resources to at least build a wall.

In the beginning (and I mean bare bones, haven't crafted a saw or drill beginning) just focus on beetroots, carrots and tomato. I can't remember what the exact number you can check the online calculator for what will trigger a raid. But I know that planting 5 crops is safe as long as it's a mixture of the 3 I just mentioned.

Get yourself a saw/drill and start getting basic building blocks first. If that's not an option, just cut down some trees with your hammer

By 48h of time I meant total play time not amount of days passed irl (It's been more like 25-40 days honestly)
So i'm not really new to survival but I still have a lot to learn

Also, Jigglepin, I got the spud-gun! it honestly didn't take that much. All I had to do was farm 30 beets which sounds like a lot more than it is so I can get the 5 blueberry seeds then farm 20 blueberries
I already had 2 orange crates and 3 farmer guys at the trader
Honestly I wish I had done this sooner the damage increase and range increase are sooo worth it.
It makes haybots (orange stabby bois) not as scary and makes totebots (green guys) even more of a joke. (but you shouldn't use potatoes on them until you have tons of them)

nice, i recommend acquiring the shotgun to, it will make easier work for looting the buildings and get bots out of your face pretty quick.

you now need to do a warehouse run :)

shotgun is also a quicker way for harvesting the burnt trees, for the ember. yes i recommend growing a ton of spuds first though :D

and yes i know the bots very well lol ;)
