My best advice is have a chest filled with gasoline on it. And find a desert with a oil pond to get mass amounts of oil. Gone are the days of swimming for gas. Now i only use gas power. Goodbye bearing driven cars for me.
The gas engine has lower torque. If you have a wheel with 2 bearings, one electric, one gas, the electric may spin the gas bearing in the opposite direction instead turning the wheel.
As long the gas engine is powerfull enough to run, you dont really benefit from an additional electric engine.
You could make lifting axles. One powered by gas, another by electric. That way you can change the engine on the fly.
If you prefer one engine above the other, place your second choice on the vehicle but dont connect. If you have to switch engine, manually reconnect the bearings and engines.
not sure how much weight you are trying to move but i have a mobile base vehicle that does everything (mining, refining (with 3 refinery storage and 2 refineries), crafting, carrying up to 2 caged farmers, can automatically water a 5 by 10 field of crops, can carry food crates on the roof, has a turret with 4 mounted spud guns for killing red farm bots, has a cook bot and dress bot) i only use one level 5 gas engine powering 8 wheels and have never had to max the engine or add a second engine to go anywhere.
To stop the bearings from binding up u just gotta make sure they all spin the se way. Thats how u can make controller driven cars. (Never try to make a car fast by using gas on bearing like a controller though. The game cant handle those speeds)
