Thrusters are absolutely useless.
So I made my first thruster today, I dont play that heavily so 10 component kits, and 40 tier 3 metal is quite the feat. But upon getting making it I instantly regretted all the time and effort I put in. Firstly it was incredibly heavy, I had to make my raft a lot bigger to get it even above water but that was fine. But secondly, even on a boat just buoyant in the water it provided NO thrust! Id need to build at least 3 to get it going anywhere and the fuel consumption would be astronomical, and they eat up 10 component kits per upgrade. I hope thats something thats being worked on because honestly, its pretty disappointing.

It’s ridiculous that the devs would think this amount of fuel consumption is usable. Either grind 50+ component kits, which is not as much as it seems, or just drive because thrusters in survival are stupid rn

Yeah I figure now driving is where its at, but damn if I wasnt excited to get my first boat going, it would have made getting oil way easier.

at the moment this is right. without any neat source of control the thrusters are more or less useless
i dont feel the need to use suspension glitches or more or less selfmade gyros wich are best described as unreliable

Definitely, I was trying to get my ship moving first and foremost but I had no idea how I would turn it either. I dont think I should be using bugs to move my ship but that seems like the only way. A cheaper propeller you could put on a bearing would be an awesome addition.

the suspension glitch is not a bug and it is never going to be removed it has been elevated to be a feature. that said they are very reliable i have a 2 seat one level 5 thruster flier that uses one bearing/supsension "glitch" for steering and 2 piston/suspension glitches for pitch and roll. it also uses what us veterans call an RA stabilizer for attitude dampening. we travel from ruin to ruin collecting loot. it has no fuel tank just what we put in the thuster (20 fuel) at a time. we keep an extra 20 in our inventory and ususally get enough fuel from loot crates to mostly not need the extra. the thing is barely more than the seats and thruster. the seats are saddles for less weight. and yes they are lighter than seats. the weight value is per block volume of the component. it is quite fast and efficient. cant put storage containers but heading out with just a couple buckets of taters and the extra fuel bottle in the inventory is plenty of room for loot storage. we also use it to scout for potential missions and mining sites. learn how to use the suspension glitch, it will make your game so much better. if you think its unreliable you are doing something wrong or listening to a but hurt youtuber.

I just want a boat man. Its just me playing, im no pro legit man, I just want a boat.

one level 5 thruster should work out. i agree they are costly and level 1 thrusters are kind of useless. dont make more thrusters, level up the one you have.

I know about the little scooter style ones, but the fact that making a gyro stabilized (which work great for me) or a viable vtol takes 1000+ components. I’d use 300, but not 1300 to make a good flyer

Is RA stabilizer pulsing thruster?
Apollo-11 Jun 25, 2020 @ 5:47pm
well i mean i have a flying thing and its amazing for going to the top of ruins to just get the epic crates but it was the biggest grind ive ever done to get the thrusters to max but yeah there not THAT useless i mean they need to make it less time consuming and just the amount of gas i need to get to the places and back is like 9-10 stacks :P
hawkwindisking Jun 25, 2020 @ 5:52pm
Useless is an exaggeration, still it should be an item we use for typical applications we would in creative mode, not The lightest and most barebones little flyer you can make or use 200+ gas a trip and need easily 800 components to make a flyer the way you would make one in creative

do you atempted to make a water wheel for powerinf the boat or what
i guess 2controller a seat 2 bearing 400wood is enought

i will give this a negative - as i personally classify this as a glitch
selfmade gyros are unreliable as those are tend to not function as intended - and i know this cause ive tryed a lot of options.
i do not intend to be rude to anybody nor do i want to pick a fight and start arguing. but for those who dont like using that glitch that has been elevated to a "feature" there is literally no option to use thrusters to fly in a contollable way

An RA stabilizer uses a controller, 4 bearings and 4 pipe corners. the bearings are in symetrically placed sets of 2 and connected with 2 pipe corners per set. the controller is used to rotate the bearings sets 180 degrees off axis which creates an Rotation Axis stabilizer (RA) for 2 of the rotational axis (pitch, roll, yaw) depending on its orientation.

regarding the glitch. the Devs has stated multiple times it is now part of the game and will not be removed. so call it what you want but you are just limiting your own game by ignoring an amazing technology. now lets look at it from a story perspective compared to our real world.

1. I right now can go on amazon and by a $50 dollar drone with Electronic "gyro" stabilizers. they do not actually have gyros, they have circuits that sense the earths magnetic field and send a signal to the motor servo control. no spinning mass at all. super effective, super cheap, and super small.

2. in scrap mechanic we are actually a space faring society, we crashed our SPACE SHIP on an AUTOMATED FARMING PLANET. and some how we are supposed to be dependent on spinning gyros?

Suspension glitches are our high tech in scrap.
