Help me figure out how to build an indestructible tank for raiding warehouses!
Kan's micro tank https://youtu.be/e8PrNznL-OI

Known issues:
Explosive tapebots destroyed the front wheels, logic and ammo container.

What I need to confirm:
1. If pistons pushed a metal 3 wall forward to keep the blast radius away, would the blast radius be able to destroy the pistons?

2. Will covering the wheels with metal 3 actually protect it from the blast radius?

3. Can sawblades damage tapebots?

4. Will relocating the logic at the bottom and more to the rear effectively isolate it from the blast radius? (The explosive tape is most likely to hit on the front portion than the back)

5. How big is an explosive tapebot's blast radius?

instead of asking this, why dont you go try it out then give us YOUR feed back. Im going to try some bits out for myself after watching his vid yesterday, its a great idea.

my first thoughts are:

1) i thought the same, having pistons push out a wall...think they will get destroyed, but the seat didnt get destroyed assuming it was level 5..neither did the electric engines. (which were right at the front)..again they looked like level 5 and so maybe level 5 pistons could be used??....

2) dont think so, as the logic etc was also destroyed which was 'behind' the blocks.. seems like the blast travels through the blocks for some reason

3) dont know, never got close enough to a tapebot with one to find out..ive always just shot at them......can sawblades be destroyed?? can they be used as defences against the bombbots??? try it!! I will

4) again id say its pot luck....the ammo container at the rear even got destroyed

5) dont think we can really know ( unless its in game file scripts) , or...... theyre based off the big or small explosive we can make in the craft bot.....set up a 16 x 16 block with one in the middle and see what damage it does. try it!!! i will

best way to test, is build what youre thinking and go storm a warehouse!!! I will

I am planning to test all this, I just started this thread in advance so I can get different results from people to better coordinate what I plan to build. I'll be using the survival bots mod in creative for this for some extensive explosion resistance testing rather than getting yeet'd in the warehouse over and over with defective prototypes.

I want to find the meta of this concept and finalise the design if possible.

Red tapebots can destroy tier 3 metal, it just takes them a couple of shots. I tried herding them with barriers made of tier 3 metal with my lift any they would damage them eventually. The blast from their shots will travel through and do damage to everything behind the barriers including the PC it appears to be greatly reduced though. Destruction is determined by a percentage calculation (i.e they have a certain percentage of destroying something if they attack it) Haybots and Totebots rarely damage things because above tier 2 they have less then a 2% chance of doing so and they can only attack a single block at a time. Red tape bots and big red farmbots do area of effect damage and it's something like 15% for Tier 3 for every block caught in the radius of the blast, drop that down to Tier 2 mats and it almost triples. Mind you that for all the blocks caught in the AOE so if the critical part hidden behind the armor block loses the dice toss it's getting destroyed. That's why that mini-tanks ammo can got nuked despite the fact it was on the very back. The drivers seat survived because it lucked out on the dice roll.

Best way to kill a tapebot is to shoot it or get it to kill itself by having it shoot something close and catch it in it's own blast. If you drop a few blocks around the floor they will walk up to them and try to shoot them point blank and blow themselves up. They have no self preservation.

Ah yes the t3 metal, I've watched Scrapman caged a red boss with it. Besides that I also noticed that the supposedly indestructible warehouse ramps can actually be destroyed because The ramp on Scrapman's t3 metal cage disappeared and Squidy's mentioned getting his ramps protecting the 1000 crops getting destroyed by boss bots while playing off camera.

What I'm wondering now is what if there is a tank that can work with just low destructibility blocks. Because spud guns, logic, wheels and ammo containers were destroyed. Is might be possible to build an effective tank if it uses sawblades instead of spud guns and maybe use concrete 3 or metal 3 as wheels.

In addition to that, if pistons don't get easily destroyed or maybe is immune to explosive damage somehow. It can be used alongside the extending wall with a sawblade and pistons at max speed, to whip the red tapebots in the face damaging it with sawblades while simultaneously damaging itself with its own explosion on the extending wall.

Now I'll go prototype it.

i managed to run over several tapebots and the farmbot with a heavy vehicle. also attached 2 sawblades close to groundlevel in the front of that car. Finally the farmbot knocked me out of the seat and broke the wheels of the car but the mainbody was still intact

The good thing about higher tier metal is that most enemies won't even try to attack it, this gives it more or less indestructable rating, however, the red tape bots will shoot at anything regardless of it's rating and at that point it's the dice roll taking over.

The best option is to get them to destroy themselves.
Making some kind of launcher that tosses those small explosive tanks or chunks of cheap material near the red tape bots and tricking them into exploding themselves is the fastest way IMO. Saw blades are very expensive and they won't damage the bots fast enough to kill them before they get out of the way, tapebots in general can move rather fast and they'll walk around any wall of saw blades or drill you put in front of your or more then likely keep a distance and blast away at them.
It would be quite funny if it's possible to build a vehicle with a metal bat to hit the explosive back at them.

ha,ha,ha i would like to see this - nice idea

I honestly don't think you can do much better than what kan had in terms of defence, since you still need to navigate the corridors of the warehouse. I think it would be best to just add more firepower, I'm thinking cover the entire front of the vehicle would at least make hitting easier.

Accuracy isn't the problem. The problem is that red tapebot blowing up the spud guns, wheels and logic. If you mean killing it before it shoots, that's really difficult.

I know but I don't think you can do much about that.

Yes, that's why I need some feedback from many different people that have tried experimenting with it to know to what extent can that problem be dealt with.

The aim is not always to completely solve the problem but rather just to see how much can be done about it.

The app only truly, truly indestructible thing are ware house keys, as I’m pretty sure the “indestructible” ramps can be destroyed by boss bots
hawkwindisking Jun 20, 2020 @ 2:39pm
Ware house keys cannot be blown up, hit or anything. Just go on a casual little 30 hour grind and you can basically break scrap mechanic. I was thinking I’d go to the warehouse, get tier 3 crops, come back, set up a four spudgun sentry turret (which kills a boss in less than two seconds) , then farm ware house keys until I can make an invincible farm and ware house raider
