Can a Piston Engine go as fast as a gas engine?

I need help building a piston engine and the survival world I'm on has no crude oil in the area and I decided to build a piston engine. It is early game so I have no batteries for a electric. The piston engine was really slow... Please help

if you upgrade the pistons you can make it faster.. i dount that a pistion engine can ever keep up with a gas engine... and pistion engines go crazy when you involve to much weight

so yeah for an explorer car just to cover some distance those things can be awesome.. but for most of the diffrent stuff i suggest using actual engines..

same goes for controller/bearings driven cars
