Unreal engine?
I feel this game could use something better than its current engine, seen as the game can't handle its self anymore with the new survival and everything else they added. Maybe a better unity engine or maybe Unreal would make this game more pleasing to play, concerned about lag, a recent update has completely made this game a lemon. before the recent patches and challenge mode being reintroduced, the fps in survival were like a knife through butter, until the point at which there was a raid, seen on many YouTube channels. The raid with all of the physics and movements, for some reason the game engine just can't handle it. That's when they tried to fix those lag issues and they ended up just making it worse, my frames used to be 150 on even complex creations assembled in a survival or creative world, but now i get 15-50 fps with random stutters.

I have tried to combat the lag issues, i stopped all tasks besides this game and the frames didn't budge, i tried turning the graphics down which just made it worse somehow, i even went to creative mode to see how bad it is (if creative was untouched by the laggy hands of death), to avail? both and all modes are extremely or moderately laggy/ stuttery.

PS, even with an RX 570 8 GB, 6 core CPU, 24 GB RAM, SSD for windows, which can handle this game perfectly, still has lag problems.

No ignorance about this game being early access, small dev team big ambitions.

I second the idea of Unity, it isn't that hard to port lua into unity, it isn't that hard to learn and start using, it is a lot more stable and runs better for the large scale game that SM is trying to be. It WOULD be a big process, without a doubt, but it would be much better in the long term and better for the dev's bottom line: they would make a lot more money off the game if it was a lot more stable., would have a lot less players requesting refunds, etc. Ogre is pretty antiquated for this type of game, unity would allow them to utilize more resources and cores which would, in itself, make the game a lot more reliable and smooth. Hell, I'd port it for them! LOL!

It really is not easy to just switch an engine they would have to throw everything and start from scratch when switching an engine, assets that could work with the new engine might work but highly unlikely models they have could also work but not garanteed and it takes years to learn a new engine that they aren't familiar.
Also i am quite familiar with both engines of unity and unreal, they are popular engines but have real restrictions that this kind of game simply could not handle. Both engines aren't really good engines with open world 3d interactive crafting settings and have set limitations and poor optimizations for certain mechanics (meaning that it is possible to script it, but the way it would be scripted would have more bugs and cause more lag).
Not to mention the loss of money they would have to spend.
Now i am not saying they simply shouldn't switch engines but that there is a risk when switching engines, mainly resources, time and money must be invested on that risk. It could pay off but it could also be a flop.

ogre seems better at handling what they are doing than unity

They have their own custom engine, switching to unity or unreal would take ages, literally.

the only issue i found is that after some raids, a visit to the second packager and 1 or two hour of play fps drop from 140 to 100.

From my experience the more complex machines and defense mechanisms are killing the fps. For example I just made a controller car with 10 bearings for the engine and another few bearings for the wheels, this causes a visible lag in the game, another thing was a car with custom suspension with a lot of bearings - again major drop in FPS while it is on the ground. Somewhere in the forum was said that players should avoid using a lot of complex bearings, pistons and suspensions, but this totally contradicts the purpose of the game, after all it is a game to create complex mechanics. I really hope they will be able to fix this, so we can enjoy the full potential of the game and doesn't need to "anchor" our complex creations to fix structures.

im not so sure they fixed raids, when i play on my survival world and im farming and a raid does finally come, my frames drop significantly, now it may be lesser than prior to the update but i still encounter random or raid frame drops.

So just now i tried seeing what happens wheni mess with my radeon settings, turnign them all off in terms of anti lag and other programs and my frames have improved, but the game still feels slightly stuttery, other than that im getting my 75 fps back.
