Realities of warehouse decryption
I found out today that you could enable the cheat codes and decrypt the warehouses, which is awesome. I have some mixed feelings about this, and I'll be curious what the devs end up doing to enable this in the game, as I've been hearing they plan to. I think it's good overall, even if it in some ways breaks the balance and need to harvest many materials from the world.

What's interesting now that I've done it, is that so many of the non-block parts don't stack, which makes it quite a challenge to get them out and use them. Chests fill up fast, and you can't fit a massive vehicle inside the warehouse elevator (if you didn't know you can bring a small vehicle or other creation inside with you though). I figure the best thing to build is a massive set of chests on wheels, but I have plans for something else.

When I was messing about and discovering all the different blocks, I thought of actually stacking them manually onto the pallets that are all over the place. If you like hauling stuff around the map as I do, it could be a fun game within the game to arrange various pallets of parts, create a forklift type vehicle to haul them through the warehouse and back to the elevator where you then get them into the overworld and load them onto a truck to take back to your base. If you want to go hard-core with it, you could even haul the individual blocks in this way building big cubes onto the pallets.

I will say that I've discovered all kinds of very nice shapes to enhance all of my builds with. The curved duct piece is a great 1x1 size curve piece and it actually stacks up to 10 for some reason. It's going to be fun seeing what cool builds people come up with using all these new parts.

is there a legit way to decrypt the warehouses? getting rid of the encryptors didn't work (blew them off the wall, took them out the elevator, picked them up)
If you've decrypted the warehouse, you can go che it out by yourself. There's a room containing the two devices that are the main mechanic of the warehouse: the protector and the encoder. They protect creations from damage and hide connections when powered by batteries, respectively. The whole deal would be to clear the warehouse, snatch those devices and then go ham looting the entire place for parts and blocks. The feature isn't implemented yet. There are several threads explaining this.

Well, what's considred legit? The game is crazy open to editing, there's a simple line change in one of the .lua files that enables some console cheat commands. You can do lots of things, but there's a command to toggle encryption or decryption. The devs haven't put the official function in the game, maybe because they are still trying to find a way to balance it, or prevent you from breaking crucial game functions (like the elevator into the warehouse).

legit? not using cheats? ;)

Yeah but the encryptors are supposed to work to enable you to do this, the only reason they don't is they're apparently not finished. So yeah, whats the difference? If you clear the warehouse first and get the encryptor, then it should satisfy.

And I wanted to create this topic to discuss how you were going to loot and what it will be like when it IS legit. Not about how it's cheating or not to do it currently. Maybe nobody wants to though, that's cool.

I messed about making a forklift to try and use those wood pallets that are in the game, but unfortunately I found out the pallets that they gave us don't have proper collision, meaning you can't get forks under them. So now I'm planning to use custom built pallets, which is just fine actually. My forklift still needs tons of improvement.

As a side note, I learned how to make a proper piston mechanism that you can retract and extend proportionally, which is something that I think should just be in the game by default, rather than the limited functionality you get of just full extension and contraction. Kan actually has a video on this for his auto farming setup, which is where I picked it up. It's kind of complicated to do, but it does work, and I'm going to use it on many builds in the future.

I'd be curios to see if you can't farm inside the warehouse or ontop, If you can' you could just make the warehouse your base... if you don't mind clearing out the tapebots and farm bots every now and then from your car park.

Warehouse base won't be that practical for farming though. Cooler to bring the pieces of the warehouse back to the spot you've chosen and make something awesome with these pieces.
