Am i missing something?
it just seems like survival it's going round collecting random things until a bunch a bots kill you with one hit and you start again. Is that it?

Watch some vids to see how to progress if you can't figure it out by trial and error.

Yeah if all you've been doing is run around on foot opening chests and fighting bots, you're missing a lot.. In the tower closest to spawn will be a "Master Battery" Take that to your ship, which unlocks a basic crafter to build a basic vehicle.. Later down the main road you'll find a mechanic shop that will give access to better crafter, unlocking a lot more crafting options. From there you can build all kinds of vehicles and bases..

It'd be nice if they told you this

Yeah, it can be a bit confusing if you don't realize you can use a bucket to put the fire out on the ship, then see the "Needs Power" and "Insert Battery" when you mouse over stuff.

Some game cultures are aligned more with sandbox exploration, and the player base prefers it to hand-holding (not derogatory--it is what it is). Subnautica is a great example of this. Either you love it or you hate it. Now, get out there and explore!! What have you got to lose?

Keep in mind that the survival update literally just came out today.. There are still missing features like the Log Book (L does nothing in game, for example) There will probably be quests in the future like "Get battery for ship."

Pointing you in some semblance of a direction is not "hand holding"

I've found the battery and all, but crafting or no crafting it's super boring, I built a car (actually two because my first one got destroyed or yeeted in outer space idk) and it's slower than running... so I've been driving around in my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ car trying to find actually round wheel or just ways to progress for hours before getting killed far from spawn...

you've probably built a vehicle to big for the initial engine and wheels. Really they aren't meant to take you far... if you follow the initial road and stick to the right you';ll come across a 'repair station' of sorts that has all the upgrades and stuff you need to get newer and better wheels. If you wander far from spawn you're only ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ yourself with just basic scrap wheels. The game could def use some directions, but it doesn't take a scientist to figure this stuff out, where scrap mechanics after all not scrap scientists XD.

"one hit" ok dude.

it's a grindy game, tbh, but fun in the long term; it won't always be grindy and there are tools to make life a thousand times easier

Yeah I've found that, I actually ran there because I lost my first car and was like ♥♥♥♥ it, it's faster to run anyway, so I followed the road, and I did found the bot crafting table problem is you need some shiny metal block ? (I haven't put my mouse over it to see the name, I did have metal and wood though and it wasn't that, the block is question is like a grey/silver) and I had and still have no idea how to get that, so I just sticked with the old crafting table, built a second car, in the hope of driving to somewhere where I can find something interesting, I even tried to use double wheels per wheel that were rotated to each other so that when it's one wheel low spot I hoped it would be on another high spot, and hopefully as a whole act like a round wheel, didn't work.

Also my first car was pretty small, just a wooden spine, with the seat & engine that branch out to the wheels, probably not the smallest but pretty close, I just think that no suspension+ non-round tires (that are solid, there doesn't seem to be soft body physics) and somewhat slippery is just awful, even just simple suspension or even just a spring with no shock absorber would be wayyy better, because right now the wheel basically slips when on the ground and spend the rest of time in the air, I even tried increasing the speed of the engine but it didn't matter there's just really that little traction.

Anyways I wanted to go into the update "clean", to be able to discover it and enjoy it for the first time, I was wrong I should have read a guide, which is probably what I'm going to do now lol.

You need to craft the "craft bot" in the big workshop, it will allow you to meke the shiny metal and progress

Yes it absolutely 100% is. You start with extremely limited stuff to explore in this mode. If you can't piece together what to do with so little available initially to even figure out...this just isn't for you. You aren't intelligent enough. Tons and tons of us have had literally zero issues progressing. If you're wandering around being dumb that's on you 100%.

They already give you SOOO much information by limiting what you have access to at the start. It's painfully obvious what you need to do.
