If your beam is one long beam, you will have to use the shorter blocks to construct a multiple piece beam.
Make sure your item is on a lift, or it will not work.
Build half of your beam starting at one bearing, and the other half starting at the second bearing. Next take your welder tool and place the cursor over one side of the beam press and hold the left mouse button. While still holding the left mouse button move your cursor over the other half of the beam and release. You should see sparks and your beam will be welded together.
