Changing inventory images?
Hi. I've been recently diving in the game files messing around with textures, giving my character and some tools a mario theme. But I wanna take the extra step of having different descriptions for these items and images in the inventory.

I've managed to find the inventory descriptions file and change the description of some items in the inventory, but I can't find the files for displaying the images of the items in the inventory.

Please, if anyone knows where to find the image files displaying the items in the inventory I want you to tell me. It would be really cool to have it displayed in the inventory that "this is a mario hammer!" instead of "oh, the image says it's a sledgehammer but the name, description and textures inicate it's a mario hammer..."

The icon map image is saved here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic\Data\Gui\IconMap.png

Editing this will change the icons you see in the inventory grid.
You can't change the one that rotates at the top right. For that, the game simply samples the actual part.

Be aware that game updates may overwrite your changes to this file, so you'll probably want to back up your work.

Happy scrapping!

PS: The IconMap.xml file (in the same folder) shows the coordinates for each icon within IconMap.png.

Sure.

What I would do if you've changed the game's part textures is this:
Create a new mod as if you're making your own mod.
Use the Scrap Mechanic Mod Tool you can get for free on Steam.
I'll call it "Temp Mod".

Copy these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic\Data\Effects\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic\Data\Gui\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic\Data\Objects\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic\Data\Effects\Scripts\

To this folder:
C:\Users\(your name)\AppData\Roaming\Axolot Games\Scrap Mechanic\User\User_(long number)\Mods\Temp Mod\

Now use the Scrap Mechanic Mod Tool to create icons for your mod.

Once this is done, you'll find your icon file here:
C:\Users\(your name)\AppData\Roaming\Axolot Games\Scrap Mechanic\User\User_(long number)\Mods\Temp Mod\Gui\IconMap.png

Now you'll have icon images which match your texture changes and can paste ones you need into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic\Data\Gui\IconMap.png file.

You can delete this folder once you have what you need:
C:\Users\(your name)\AppData\Roaming\Axolot Games\Scrap Mechanic\User\User_(long number)\Mods\Temp Mod\
