But this has to be planned from the start - once the strain has a full unit of green (or any other color) it's harder to reduce it back down.
There might be other ways, but that's the method I've most commonly seen.
This is my method:
G = Green
R = Red
B = Blue
P = Purple
Y = Yellow
First Stage is to make the strain that you will use a lot, it contains all four of the basic food production DNA.
When you have made this strain do NOT let it go under (2)!
This one is important and will be used to the end of making +4.
Make several of these now and/or when you only have two left by splicing them together.
* After making it, RB and PY are no longer needed they and can be deleted.
Second Stage is to add the one green so that you have a strain of that contains all five basic DNA.
Third Stage is simply a loop:
Join the DNA with the four food producers with the newest strain that has the one green.
Continue to add RBPY to the newest strain you make so that there is only ever one green and then one extra of the other four.
* When you make a new strain the previous one isn't needed anymore.
* The food production may go up, down or stay the same but it will eventually reach +4.0
* The number of times needed to do this may vary.
Once you have the +4.0 you are finished with the researching.
Keep splicing it with itself and DO NOT LET IT GO BELOW (2)!
If you lose this you will need to make another +4.0 strain.
All the rest go to the farms for +5 food.
As a tip for the BioLab, have at least two built in your colony but do not have them near each other. If you or a disaster destroys your only BioLab, all of the strains you have made are destroyed with it.
