game is trash +1
difficult is most definitely a word i would not use to describe this game though.

as i uninstall and hide this game from my library, i leave you with my thoughts.
this review is being ripped out of a forum thread that i'm discussing the game in. so keep in mind there are some references that would seem out of place if that were not mentioned.
-------------------
do take note that i am describing the first in series, not the second.

the first in series is a bad game. here is why:
controls are not only floaty, but sloggish as well. so many times the buttons just don't seem to activate. i am often double pressing buttons. mostly the R2 button. sometimes i'm gliding, sometimes i'm not.

down = dive. this is absolutely unforgivable. a terrible implementation to any platformer.
it would be so much better if it was down + jump. (or any combo really)
why dropping through a platform needs to have a combo button, but diving doesn't, truly is just bad design. i have examples of why it's even worse than i'm stating it, but i've been told this mechanic has completely dropped from the second in series. (huge saving grace to #2)

unfair lvl design. i am starting this on hard mode, but there's a shooting enemy at the end of nearly every platforming section. it's just tedious.
there are way too many blind jumps with multiple "gotcha" moments.

i can see why ppl call it a metroidvania, but i've never seen one designed in such a way.
your objective is always highlighted, you always basically know where to go. if you are getting lost it's because you didn't bother checking which direction you should be heading.
it's so damn linear. it's less a metroidvania, and more just a path with secret branches that aren't very much a secret.

the combat is not even combat. again, i'm doing this on hard, and everything is just a sponge, but that's not my gripe about combat. the issue is, it's just a 1-button spam, it's just not fun.

the comparison to super meat boy was pretty good. it's a lot more like an open world SMB or Celeste. however, i believe both SMB and Celeste are far superior when it comes to game-play. Celeste especially, has a flow to it. you die and respawn quickly, but everything lines up if you just start running and jumping immediately. Ori punishes you for such and forces you to slog through sections instead of speed-running it.

the big issue with this game, is that it's not really unique at all. it steals from a list a of games and mixes all them together. imo, every game it steals from, does those things better, as those things were the focus of the game. not an add-in.

the game looks good, and has a good music track. but that's about all i can give to it. i'd probably have rather watched this play instead of playing it. even the double jump sound effect is somewhat annoying.

the story is rather basic. it's not really a minus, but it's nothing special to really give it a plus either.

the save function is something i'm not fond of. 2 reasons.
1: i don't like how it's tied up with your skill points. this goes against my grain and makes me want to not save, just so i have points available to open doors or use a skill. however, since everything resets upon death, you are forced to save often.

2: bad saves. if you save in a rough spot with low health, you regret the decision almost immediately. there's nothing you can do but work your way out of it.

i know a lot of ppl are more attached to the visuals and music, which are things that were done well here. but as a "game", the game-play is just horrid.
i wouldn't even bother finishing this game if i didn't end up dedicated to this thread.

i'll stress again, that the floaty controls were tolerable. even the sloggish controls could be forgiven. the down = dive really is a game-breaker though. it's legit a sin to platforming.

as you can tell, i'm not happy with the first in series at all. if i wanted to play a combat based metroidvania, i'd play HK. if i wanted to play a tight platformer, i'd play Celeste.
both games do their respective genres very well. they were only after thoughts here just to check a bunch of boxes it seems. it truly feels the game-play was back-burner focus.

i do have reason to believe the second in series would be more enjoyable than the first, but i really have to say, the first in series is just a "bad game" with good visuals and music.

#2 is not something i would rush to play at this point. i'm more-so only interested in #2 for appeasement reasons. appeasement of myself, and others who genuinely seem interested in my thoughts. i almost feel i have to experience #2, i'm just afraid i won't like it at all either.

to my OP. if i was asking about the first Ori instead of the second Ori, i'd tell myself if i was to look at this as a "metroidvania" i'd be disappointed because it's the worst implementation of a metroidvania i've ever seen. again, props to the SMB comparison, at least for the first in series.

this game should never be compared to HK. ever. both games are nothing alike.
1 last time, this is all based on #1 in Ori series. not #2.

ok, i've beaten the "game" now. i have even more complaints about the controls with the final stage, but i'm done. should have been a short disney movie instead of a game.

Trying (and failing) to make it more 'analytical' only reveals their inability to reflect on their experience while transforming it into reasonable conclusions.

Ok, but maybe I'm just salty about someone not liking what I like? Well, it could be so if it weren't for a one single marker indicating that I'm not just being a snuffy fuddy-duddy here. Thing is, as it has already been stated in this topic a few times, when you don't like something of an obvious quality, you talk details; but when you start calling it a 'trash' instead, you're merely justifying your own frustration. The former is an attribute of an opinion worth debating over, while the latter is a solid reason rightful enough to not giving a s**t to anything being said after.

To sum it all up, there's a perfectly accurate term[www.merriam-webster.com] to define such behaviour.

You didn't made a single point which could be argued with. You were merely justifying your frustration; what else is needed to be said about that?

this might mean something to me, if it didn't come from such a soulless game community such as Ori. you all are big mad just for listing my issues lol

i'd like to note that this was released on Xbox. a system designed to use a controller, not a M + KB. to suggest the M + KB is normal game-play is just false.
..and the sign of bad controls in a game

big mad because you can't defend this atrocity of a "game"
get those negative reviews out of here so the snowflakes stop melting

#yawn

it's funny that you all hated on the OP because he didn't give much reason to why he didn't like the game.
i give you reasons, and you're just as spiteful. it clears up the motivation for most of you posting here in the first place.

You trying to troll or something? You're the one encouraging people to read and reply by shitting up the thread and telling them they're "unable to argue". Now you're chickening out?

I couldn't give a single ♥♥♥♥ how console "people" play. I'd like to note that the game was also released on PC at the same time, and these are Steam's forum, we play games on personal computers here.

Doubled the efforts.

Also the guy apparently can't comprehend what's been written in response out of fear for his fragile ego. I guess he just can't admit he has skill issues because of that same reason.
