Pretty sure there was a STICK to stomp beside a life cell.

Yes, this is new content from the DE. You have to unlock new abilities to use the lantern.

Also, some secret places that required a stick in the original version of the game were changed to lantern as well. So it might be that there is a lantern nearby and the stick was replaced.

You use the new light burst ability to light the lanterns.
