Key rebinding and button remapping in Definitive Edition
Heya!

In the Definitive Edition, it's possible to rebind keyboard inputs and controller button mappings for directInput. We didn't get to build this into the game, but there are some .txt files that you can edit.

Mouse and Keyboard rebindings
Browse here in the file explorer:
%localappdata%/Ori and the Blind Forest DE/KeyRebindings.txt
An explanation is provided in the file.

DirectInput controller remapping
Browse here in the file explorer:
%localappdata%/Ori and the Blind Forest DE/ControllerButtonRemaps.txt
An explanation is provided in the file.

Note that these files will only be created after starting up the game at least once. If they do not show up for you, try starting the game and it will create them.

If you ever want to get rid of the rebinding that you did, you can delete these two files and restart the game after. The files will regenerate fully cleared and the game will return to the basic control scheme.

I have an issue where the .txt does nothing to my game (I assume from me using fake keys like "Mouse4", and maybe from having more than two buttons in a list, e.g. Z, Y, W) and, also, deleting the file doesn't restore default settings.

Can someone post the default settings? Or tell me what I'm doing wrong so I can change my keybindings?

I think you made the same mistake I did (no, multiple keys for one action is normal and possible without any problems). Maybe you just forgot to change

Activate Key Rebinding: False
to
Activate Key Rebinding: True

But here is the original text file

Sorry I forgot to mention that I set it to true.

This is exactly what my .txt says, if that helps
This is very bad... even the cheapest of games get this right, oh well at least it's no as complicated as other games I've encountered
If you're rebinding on Windows10, make sure you open the .txt file with Notepad (Excel will be the default). If you open with Excel and make the changes, it will not work, even with the tab-delimited option. It starts adding hidden quotation marks to the lines that - while not visible in Excel - can be seen in Notepad.
I'll just repost something that helped me from other forum post:

"I am posting this because I feel this might be useful for other players who want to use a controller with the PC version of the game and do not have an x-box controller. The game is unplayable with a PS4 controller with the game directly plugged into your PC. (Probably all non X-box controllers) The RT to grab blocks for example defaults to right on the right analogue stick ... which becomes quickly annoying.

So I dug around and have found out that you can modify your controller settings. You can do so by modifying the following file:
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\Ori and the Blind Forest DE\ControllerButtonRemaps.txt

The following text emulates the same default button presses for a PS4 controller so it's as if you were using an x-box controller. Simply replace the portion of text to this and your controller will work as intended.

{Start of txt mod}

--------
Activate DirectInput Button Rebinding: False
--------
A: 1
B: 2
X: 3
Y: 4
LShoulder: 5
RShoulder: 6
Select: 7
Start: 8
LStick: 9
RStick: 10
LTrigger: 13
RTrigger: 14
--------

{End of txt mod}

NOTICE: The file itself mentions that syntactical errors will cause the game to default back to the original settings so be sure to not change any spacings and so on in the ControllerButtonRemaps.txt file. (Extra spaces and line breaks may cause this for example)

If you experience similar behaviour with another gaming controller (such as a logitech one) simply map the button number to the corresponding button you want to use. I used windows Game Controllers Properties settings to figure out what numbers the PS4 buttons were mapped to.
Found at (Windows 10 - Other windows OS's will be similarly located): "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers"
Right click on "Wireless Controller" select "Game Controller Settings" then click "Properties". You can use this window to find the key press to corresponding button for your specific controller."

That last bit with the control panel and what not really helped a lot to understand that the numbers on the text file meant. Glad I made it work, because with my controller I wasn't able to make a charge dash or use kuro's feather and was getting annoyed by it. Hopefully someone else will find this information useful.
Should be mentioned that you can use Steam big picture mode to rebind controls as well.
why didn`t I reseved a coupon to this edition. I have the original game
Can someone please explain to me how to use a .txt file to remap controls? Im really not getting this

im trying to change my dash to Mouse4 but it does not work
I'm struggling to rebind the climbing ability. I assumed that it's the "grab" command in the text file, but various keys didn't work, except for the default RightShift. Which is quite bothersome.
Edit: So, turns out that climb equals glide. In case someone else stumbles upon that problem.

@Whoppy: Did you locate the file already? You can probably find it somewhere at
C:\Users\***YourName***\AppData\Local\Ori and the Blind Forest DE (with your actual pc user name instead of the placeholder)
Or type %localappdata% into the adress bar of the explorer window and navigate to the Ori folder. You then open the file with Notepad or Editor. Make sure to set Activate Key Rebinding from False to True. Then you can choose which keys you want for what command.

It seems that it is not working with other mouse buttons.

because of the nature of the port, only the keys in use in the default game have been assigned variables to act as bindable keys (from what I gather). So, no you can't use Mouse4 because it relies on a variable called Mouse4 existing, which it doesn't, as the developers didn't need a Mouse4 when making the game

Correct me if I'm wrong
I'm having problems with the remapping and the use of the LT and RT. They simply are not there. This is what I have in my file:

--------
Activate DirectInput Button Rebinding: True
--------
A: 3
B: 2
X: 4
Y: 1
LShoulder: 5
RShoulder: 6
Select: 9
Start: 10
LStick: 7
RStick: 8
LTrigger: 13
RTrigger: 14
--------

Still LStick (mapped to LT) and RStick (mapped to RT) just don't work ingame.
Just a shame that the game makers do not bother to make an option in the game for a good key binding option. Love to play the game but editing the txt file wont work for me so waste of money.
