Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition

Game stuttering no matter what
Game stutters heavily all the time, it's basically unplayable for me. I tried all the recommended fixes: disable vsync/fullscreen, run in compatibility mode, override dpi settings, etc. No luck, it still stutters badly. Radeon software says 55 fps average for this game, but it feels sub 30 fps with all the stuttering. I've read it's an unfixable issue with Unity and how it does asset loading. Should I refund?
System is Ryzen 5 3600, 32 GB RAM, Radeon RX 5700 XT, game is installed on SSD.

Hear about stuttering in Ori Blind Forest for the first time. It is not a rare problem for Ori Will of the Wisps for now though. According to your config you shouldn't have any performance issues.

In Will of the Wisps my stuttering issues are connected to shader compilation on the fly because I use Proton while playing on Linux. With Blind Forest I got some 50 mb shader cache and experienced long loading to Main menu for the first time. But after that all was running smoothly.

But probably you are running the game on Windows and this is irrelevant for you.

I'm playing Blind Forest the Definitive Edition, not the original. I played Will of the Wisps as well on Xbox Live and the stuttering, although present, is much more manageable in that game, or at least I can ignore it. Blind Forest is way worse, it's like it's dropping few frames every second, gives me a headache.

Already tried compatibility mode and disabling full screen optimisations, that did nothing. I ended up refunding the game, I can't spend hours getting it to work properly.

After an hour of trying different things to fix the stuttering, I finally found a workaround.

Add this command to the game's launch options:
-force-d3d9

Now 95% of the stuttering is gone and the game is actually very smooth.
I hope this helps those who want to replay this game like me, now that Will of the Wisps is out.

Encountered this issue on RTX3070. After disabling "Threaded Optimization" in Nvidia drivers all stutters gone forever.

Here with a solution that worked for me.

So, I just started playing the game on my new high-end computer and the stuttering killed me. Both figuratively and sometimes literally in the game. Anyway, I searched high and low for a solution and thank goodness I found one. Now, I'm making it my mission to share it with others because it drove me insane.

To spare you the details, the game is not optimized AT ALL to handle newer CPUs especially those that come with a high number of cores.

My solution, which completely got rid of all the stutters, was to download a program called Process Lasso. In a nutshell, it's an automatic processer optimizer (on the fly). It solved the problem by limiting the number of active cores. To run Ori&TBF (Definitive Edition), you don't need a state-of-the-art computer. Old computer ran this game flawlessly with their, relative to today, outdated specs. So, you'd think today's computers would have no issue, but the reality is that today's computers seem to be "overqualified" to run such games... lol

Anyway, so Process Lasso automatically parks/unparks cores depending on the need. Most of your cores are not needed to run an old game like this - so it keeps the ones needed active and parks the rest. This solved the issue.

Note: Just download and have the program running/open. I didn't need to configure a single thing.

Disclaimer: This software is not free. It has a trial period and then you gotta buy the license. I'm not affiliated with them whatsoever and I'm not endorsing them. I'm just sharing what worked for me. I was so happy they fixed my problem so much so that I bought a license to support them, but again, that's just me.

I believe the alternative (free) option would be to manually disable most of your cores [keep 2-4 cores active] whenever you want to play this game and then manually activate them again once done - rinse repeat for every time you play it (or similar old games which suffer from stutter). Personally, I find that to be a hassle, especially given how forgetful I am so I opted for using the program.
Hope this helps folks out.
Cheers!

AHHHH! finally a solution.

I found that playing Ori and the Blind Forest with SpecialK solved this and other issues, like DPI scaling. On a 4K screen with 200% scaling, I couldn’t select 3840x2160, only 1080p, and the image was a terribly blurred mess.

Tried everything.
Driver, CPU Core Affinity, Resolution and graphics settings (on a 4080)...
Nothing works.
Game is unplayable.
Ubisoft just being crap and not optimising their game for current hardware as far as I can tell.

It’s not Ubisoft… anyway did you try launching the game via SpecialK?
