Difference between Original and Definitive Edition?
It may be a question asked many times, but I'm completely new to this series and just bought both Ori games.

Definitive is better in every way, except it doesn't ahve Trading Cards. :sein:

The main differences I noted (I've recently played through both for the purpose of comparison) are:

  • Definitive has more locations to explore
  • Definitive tells the player more about Naru's story
  • Definitive has more abilities that Ori can learn
  • Definitive has more cells to find (due in part to new abilities and places to explore)
  • Definitive has more achievements that can be unlocked
  • Original drops Steam trading cards

I may have missed things that I didn't observe, but those the differences I noted.

Cheers! :steamhappy:

Original also reveals the name of the artist of the final picture ;)
Protip: Start playing the Definitive Edition. It is an improved original. There is really no reason to play the un-definitive edition, unless you want less comfortable playthrough of the same game (no fast travel at all on the whole giant map! No difficulty levels!) but with more bugs and less content.

As a bonus, there is some additional content (a new optional area and new complementary abilities).

Theater Mode is also included. Not only can players view all of the cutscenes, but also see early concept material from the game, trailers, and other bonuses from early in the game's development.

Protip #2: Don't start your first playthrough in Hard Mode. It will make it almost impossible to get all abilities, because the XP gain is severely nerfed from the original (Normal) mode.

I started on hard mode, you can XP farm from Hollow Grove near an area of the spirit well with the sentry stones (that shoots lazers). I have done this the halfway exploring the entire map.

For farming, you have to first achieve Ori's "Ultra Spirit Magnet Ability" to make this convenient. there is a bridge tree log- underneath it has a enough space for Ori to climb and place to perch on for standing still. This will activate the rolling green beetle and continuously die over by the incline pathway towards down below as it explodes. It takes about two overnights in order for me to complete all the abilities but the exclusion that I had been continuing gaining xp points from fighting and playing the story but this is doable.

You can also farm on the Valley of the Wind area once you have completed the wind element and killing all the ravens, fast enough to respawn, but this means almost finishing the level of the game.

Although I tried farming first, after completing the skill tree, I have exceeded 15 ability points later from unlocking secret locations e.g. ability cells. There is actually enough for Ori to gain abilities if you can try to get the areas and collectibles charted by 100% unless you granted all "Ancestral Tree Skill" too make them accessible in ease of those locations. hence xp farming is easy to unlock first for all the ability tree skills.

XP farming is tedious to be honest, but it is effective. Hard mode is possible. One life difficulty would be the worst way to do it LOL.

I played on Hard Mode and finished the game in 14 hours just fine. I didn't finish the skill tree, but I did get all the abilities, including the optional ones.

Thanks for all the answers. I was already intending to play on the Definitive Edition just because it sounded like it was exactly the original but with more content and fewer bugs (still ran into a few, but nothing gamebreaking.) I was just curious what it has that the original didn't have.
