So, what's so special about this game?
I just finished it and... it was alright, but nothing special, really, but I feel like there should be.
This thing has 45 000 overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. That's a lot. That's way more than quite a few games of a similar genre that I consider to be superior.

So, what am I missing? Again, I'm not arguing that the game is bad somehow, I just fail to see the 'amazing' part.
Or is it just simply an alright game that looks cute enough to appeal to a large audience?

I'm not feeling it either. I've played for like an hour and it's one annoying thing after another. Blind leaps of faith in the dark, too much trial and error, the camera's distance keeps changing which throws off my distance judgement, enemy projectiles being impossible to see because the screen is so cluttered, and having to make super precise wall jumps when the camera is zoomed out which makes it very difficult to tell if I'm contacting the wall or not.

I also was believing game has them when was reading reviews. But while playing it I found none. You can hold "down" button to make Ori crouch and camera will shift downwards. There is no place where you cannot see where you are going to jump.

It can be a little to frustrating imo than fun, in metroid, or evils profile characters game soul reaver you had a health bar. Its not so much the annoying platforming that bugs me but the instant kills. It gets to be a constant setback, I kinda prefer metroid but this games ok its just really difficult at times.

There's an area that's total darkness, and the only thing you can see are the glowing platforms. You can't see the walls or thorns that are everywhere, and sometimes it looks like you're supposed to jump to one platform only to find a wall in the way. You pretty much have to fumble around and die over and over until you happen to find the right way.

I really dislike the instant kill lasers myself.
I think that a hard platformer should be something like mario with lives and gameovers. I tend to like more fun strategy hub games like castlevania, soul reaver, metroid, system shock... This just feels like another one of those games that gamers use as a form of pride or something like meatboy and celeste. Games that aren't really that great kinda overrated. I don't like them, so whatever I beat celeste at least was pretty dumb imo.

I'm not part of the crowd that jumps on new popular games just cause... I tend to like the classics, and fun factor. Metroid or the ones I mentioned, SOTN, those games stick out in my head as classics that are fun. Ori just got kinda annoying at the pinpoint instant kill lazer dodging. Not something I wanna do for hours. Sad cause I liked the graphics and the level up system. Kinda wish games like this that have a lot of promise wouldn't be ruined by over the top difficulty.

Metroid 1 on NES or metroid 2, on GB, they were from the oldschool days, and they are still less annoying in difficulty. I just feel like its an odd way to go for this kinda game. Run around, enjoying the atmosphere, just to fall in a pit of spikes, or blasted by a laser you didn't see... And they actually have an achievement for not dying in the game lol. Not something I'd wanna ever do in my whole life. Maybe I'd like to beat the game tho, I do wanna like it but this laser spamming crap is annoying,

You are talking about Black Root Burrows, that is optional location added in DE and not necessary for finishing the game. I treat it as a post-game content for players who finished the game and want a bit more of gameplay and want additional challenge. It can be frustrating to enter it early. It is not present in original game.

Make it like Mario? I hated Mario on NES, I would swap it for Ori anytime :ori: But you can play Ori WotW then - they listened to players like you and you have almost no insta-death hazards in Ori WotW and can just tank through the obstacles. Cool, right? No need to think, just go - and game will forgive you a lot of mistakes. Not the thing I like though.

I do not want to play Super Meatboy or Celeste and rarely play at all, but difficulty in Ori was just right to my tastes. You are not punished hard for your death - respawn is instant. And I finished it without dying, yes, this Unhinged achievement, and it was a fun challenge :ori:

Respawn just like most metroidvania games is only as instant as the last save.
And really you hated mario, wow I can't really see how you could hate pure gaming history and a platformer that still holds up nicely to all this overrated garbage I end up refunding or uninstalling. But yes mario1 was nowhere near as good as 3 or world, dk country, super metroid, list goes on and on.

I don't really wanna tank through or rely on checkpoints. In the old days we actually uh, had game overs. Fail enough times and you didn't get a retry at all, go outside and play, better luck next time.

But it was better than this try over and over stuff.

I think axiom verge is probably something I should try, if hollow knights worse than this, then I really have no interest in these cartoon metroidvanias would rather play metroid prime again. Not everyone can agree I guess, I wanted to like this game, but its the same laser dodging nausea over and over so far.

This jump in particular really was making me sick of the game. Especially since its the only route out of this annoying patch. Would be tolerable if it was a one time thing and an easier shortcut appeared. But expecting us to go through this jump everytime we fall down here through grinding and mere exploration?

Its why I get bored and frustrated very easily with this game, and why I'd rather play something else. And really can't see how any gamer could hate super mario brothers thats almost sad, you young gamers have no idea what it was like to play that game for the first time. I mean it was before zelda even, and had far more to offer than most of these meatboy clones.

I think gaming is very strange now, where devolutions of 80s games are praised.

You talk like these games have virtues everyone should like and praise. And should I care about you refunding and uninstalling games? No, in the slightest.

It is again this optional Black Root Burrows area, Evil_the_Nub was talking about as being unfair and I replied to him. I do not want to repeat myself. And yes, this area can make you sick and it is an optional content because of this.

Even if it's optional that doesn't excuse forcing the player to fumble around in the dark. Plus it's way too easy to access. All I did was get an ability to climb walls, used the second teleporter I found to go to the first teleporter, then climbed the wall on my immediate right. As far as I could tell that was the only path available.

Just my opinion people will like whatever clicks to them, but hating mario? I could understand disliking it or not having interest but hating the grandfather of all platformers (sorry pitfall). Who is the one with an unreasonable opinion lashing out at a game that created games?

The sound effects, enemies, music, powerups, I still enjoy mario runs with my family and friends since we all grew up with it. I bet most of my old friends and family wouldn't even look at ori, but I'm not bashing this game. I actually thought it looked really good initially. But then the annoying crap evil is talking about started to set in.

I beat super ghouls and ghosts once, very hard platformer, beat a lot of other hard platformers. But if the challenge isn't fun... Then what am I doing trying the same jump over and over?

I don't appreciate the disrespect towards games that made platformers. Its your opinion, hate mario all you want. Just don't expect most 30-40 year olds to agree there's a reason why Mario1 has been remade dozens of times, and why its one of the single biggest franchises in gaming, so yea keep hating pure genius. This little microsoft cash in looks nice but doesn't even compare to mario, metroid, castlevania or soul reaver even. Soul reaver now thats a classic game, goes for 1buck on steam sometimes, do yourself a favor and pick it up along with shadowman maybe you'll see what a real adult metroidvania is like.

No, it was not the only path available. Moon Studios made poor job here with DE - in original 2015 game we had no Black Root Burrows and players, who were unable to solve the puzzle to progress further into story-line, were not ending up navigating rather hard Black Root Burrows. You are not the first one and not the last one player who will end up feeling frustration because of this.

I guess.

I actually did this jump already and it was annoying af, and I did not want to do it again but trying to find how to proceed I fell down here sure enough now I'm stuck again and this is not fun, super metroid wall jumping with the green ewoks was less annoying than this.

Could you elaborate as to why you hate one of the greatest games ever made I'm still trying to understand that. I mean just up and saying you hate a beloved gaming classic with no reason why just makes me wonder.

I was talking about the part just before it, where all you can see is black, and some glowing blue platforms that might be blocked by a wall you can't see until it's too late. That whole area was annoying though. I have up on the game pretty much right after it.
