I love the way it looks, I hate playing it!
I really think I dislike this game. It is absolutely amazing to look at, but the controls and the "puzzles" are terrible. I am trying to escape the rising water and it is one of the most frustrating experiences I've had in a game in a long time.

Not because it is difficult, but because it is unfairly difficult. The "bash" control is so clunky and uncontrollable that it makes what should be a fairly easy thing stupid hard.

This may be a game I refuse to finish.

It was took 2 tries for me to escape that section in normal difficulty. Maybe because I'm using keyboard and mouse, so it is easy to aim "bash" direction. Do you know that you can hold bash to slow down game and aim easily?

What controls do you use? Using bash with mouse works pretty well. You just need to get used to it. The controls are pretty flewent and responsive. If you press and hold bash you have a small window that it will activate when you are near something you can use bash on. Then take aim to where you want to go. Dont let the rizing xater scare you. You have more then enough time to plan and execute your move.
And if you get too frustrated. Take a break. I did that with the water escape. And,when i came back i needed only 3 tries to succeed.

As you can gather from the other recent Ginso thread, I absolutely struggled with the Ginso level as well. And I know two things, it IS super frustrating AND it is much easier and enjoyable afterwards (though I can't say anything about the final sequence yet). As others have helpfully pointed out, there is a halfway checkpoint by one of the bouncy pads when you play on easy mode (check the video). Without that one I'd probably have been lost in the Tree forever. So I definitely agree with the difficulty complaint about that particular bit. Also, bash is the skill I dislike most, because it feels - at least to me - still erratic and non reliable. Which isn't so bad when you have time, but with the sodding water chasing you it is horrible. Especially when you have to aim "opposite" or wait for some random projectile or boulder to bounce off from and don't even have the floating feather to help you along.... (which you get only later in the game). All the other tricky areas were tricky in a fair way, but the Ginso is just...I don't even know what to call it =)

mad cuz bad?
Don't blame the game man, controls are fine, it's just that you suck at it. You'll get better, like we all did, nothing to be ashamed of :vert:

The game have Easy difficulty for people like you i think the problem is your skill not the game. Too bad the game don't have the option: watch the others play on YT or point and click adventure like COD.
Ginso tree take me around hours to beat due to low FPS issue with my old laptop. If you want good bash aim use mouse and keyboard. Controller for some fancy trick.
I don't know why people complain about bash. Bash is easy to use, doesn't require skill and reliable, if you can't use bash too bad because some sections in late game will require bash skill.
I suggest you should watch speed runners run Ori in AGDQ 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 if you want to see how the pros use bash.

Do you have proof of this? I don't know if I believe any human actually escaped the Ginso Tree in one try on the first play-through. Even I, a platforming expert, died 20 times.

Hey Everyone,

I did pass that part, but only after I switched it to "easy".

What I have had to do is constantly switch back and fourth from keyboard/mouse to controller. Any parts where it requires precision "bash" I have to use the mouse because the controller is simply too sensitive to be used effectively.

I worked my way thought a few other levels, but the game has honestly worn me out. The gamer in me wants to finish, but I am struggling. The other night, after some wind level, I found a map shard and when the map became revealed, I hung my head and shut it off.

Many others have said the same, but I find that in 2018 the instant death from unknown traps to be quite frustrating. I remember dropping down pits in Mega Man, or that stupid Technodrome level in TMNT for the NES where you would drop down and die because the floor was spikes.

Back then I didn't have any frame of reference. That was how games were. Today, having dealt with so much better level design, I find that this type of trial and error gaming to be monotonous. Part of it is that I don't have the time to sit there playing the same thing over and over.

For those who said I'm just not that good. Perhaps. But, for me it isn't really about my skills or lack there of, it is more about fighting the game. I find myself fighting the controls. I know what I am supposed to do, but the controls are so fickle that many times I'm just pulling off the move out of luck.

I find that I am constantly getting caught on things that don't really seem to be there (this is partly because of the multi-layered elements. Sometimes you think it is a background plant, when it is really a deadly spike.

I don't mind punishing games, but this isn't so much punishing, as it feels unfair.

Uh, my brother was there when I did it as a witness. /shrug
I just played how I usually play. Looked what was coming up ahead of me and timied the ability accordingly. The water was pretty forgiving, ALTHOUGH I did panic for a little bit and almost ate it. But yeah, I was actually bummed out on beating it quick cause it was a really fun part IMO. And I didn't know you can go back to a previous save to play it again.

Is there a way to remap the controller so it doesn't do that stupid downwards smash thing? I am so tired of slamming myself into death spikes because my controller thinks I pressed down.

Why not just switch to keyboard + mouse altogether if you're having all these problems with gamepad?
K+M is wonderful. Switch on it and that's all.
Nothing was hard for me, I did Mount Horu final on 2nd attemp :P
