Double Jump
Once you get this its fine on a ground surface but when jump off a wall it is very difficult not to start as a double jump. Since many puzzles require two jumps off a wall this is very frustrating. Does anyone know any way using keyboard keys to avoid this happening?

Yes, it happens not very rare while using Wall Jump you miss the timing, presses Jump while Ori not touches the wall and wastes double jump as the result. I'm playing on keyboard and can't tell that it is frustratingly common though.

You can get Triple Jump In the future so if you wasted second you still have third. Also you'll get an ability/power close to mid-game that is easing that jump from a wall situation.

It just takes practice. You have to get comfortable with it. If you tend to get nervous and hyper when trying to do complex jumping maneuvers, it'll affect your timing and cause that exact problem. Also,

Indeed, but I notice that on some *vertical* surfaces which are somewhat curved this does not happen so I think there is a poor design element here. There is one like this next to the save point adjacent to Misty Woods, you never use your double jump coming of it.

However I am starting to wonder could my new mechanical gaming keyboard be the issue? As soon as you press a key it registers before you even 'press it home' so does is it still registering up to me taking my finger of the key? That might explain why it becomes a double jump on first jump.

P.S. Once you get the stick to the wall ability it is not an issue anymore.

Climbing walls is the ability I was talking about. But I wanted to avoid spoilers. Are you really meant "horizontal" and not "vertical"? If you cannot stick to a surface (your curved one) then you just cannot make a wall jump from that also. I do not see any design oversight there.

Yes I meant vertical, maybe they intended to make you do a double jump if you are "falling" for a second on a wall and try to leap across? That would seem a bit harsh to me but then I am not a big platform player maybe its normal nuisance value for the genre.
