The Playstation asstistant emulates an Xbox controller. This is only needed for games that do only support Xbox controllers. Having it activated can mess up with other games - be aware of this. I recommend using this setting only for games that do not recognize your controller at all.
In your case you probably have other third party xinput emulators running or another setting activated so that you need the Playstation assistant for playing Ori.
But yes, for this kind of circumstances, the Playstation assistant can help while emulating a Xbox controller.
Nah, activating it via Steam for all games doesn't mess up native input if a game has one, it just changes the emulation to a X1 controller. However, you can still use the touchpad, gyroscope and all that, which X1 controllers do not have. You can even use a DualShock 3, Nintendo Switch, etc.
Plus the bonus for this is also you can use presets from developers or other users. And you can also add non-steam games to your library that will work with the controller from the get go without any additional software.
I have both DualShock 4 and X1S controllers, and both work fine in all my games.
Wrong, just wrong - sorry.
With the asstistant activated Assault Android Cactus does not support 360 degree aiming anymore for the right analogue stick (only digital 8-way) and Aer does not have the feature of wing braking anymore... it is just missing and you can't fix it ingame. You have to fix things up with own Steam controller profiles for the game - the problem is, if you don't know that the game is acting weird, you play the game this way and you will experience a lot of trouble during gameplay. But before you begin to setup own controller profiles, just deactive the assistant and you can play the game the way it is meant to be played.
This was tested and confirmed on several accounts and different PC, also different DS4.
Best thing is to use the assistant only for games you really need to. On both games I wouldn't have recognized a problem when I didn't played them without that assistant before. That is the whole problem about it.
