Save file disappeared
When I was playing Ori earlier today my computer shut down because of an electricity cut and when I restarted it everything seemed alright. But when I was starting Ori again I realized that the save-file I was playing on disappeared. I think I don´t have to tell that it´s super annoying...

However, I found this: "https://i.imgur.com/AzQhtsI.png" data in this folder: "C:\Users\MYNAME\AppData\Local\Ori and the Blind Forest DE" which suggests that I have two save files (I indeed had two before the shutdown). One of them was last edited when my computer shut down and I wonder whether there is a way to make the game recognize the file again.

I would truly appreciate any help.

The game always keeps 5 save backups for each save slot as you can see, they're named with the same filename as the main save file, but with _bkup0 added (like saveFile0_bkup0.sav for instance)
You just need to grab the most recent one (which should be the one with 0 at the end), remove the _bkup0 part from the filename, and the game should recognize it as the main save file with no problems.

Old topic, but I'm here now. I have the game, about 50% played, but now suddenly the save file isn't showing in the game. It's in the save folder where it should be, but the above option isn't working. Any ideas? I like the game and I'd love to finish it but I don't want to play through the whole thing again.

Did you have to rename one of the backups, or was the original savefile0.sav already there?

The original is there. A previous save is also there and displays in the game, but the latest one does not.

Have you already tried removing the original and renaming one or even all of the backups one by one to see if they work? And if you did, are you 100% sure the filename was correct? The only other thing I could think of is changing slot (so changing the number in the filename), if not even that works I really have no idea what the problem could be.

I've renamed the latest backup, yes, and also tried swapping slots (SaveFile1 changed to SaveFile0). It does not show up. I'll try with the previous backup files as well and get back here...

Maybe you have both versions of Blind Forest installed and mess with wrong one? Or you do this without quitting the game? Maybe you need to turn off Steam Cloud synchronization?

Look. Every single save file, backup one or not, is self-sufficient. if the save file is not corrupted, and named right, and rests in a right place - then it SHOULD WORK. So If you say that not a single one save file is working, can it be that all of them are corrupted? I think - no. So it should be you do something not exactly right.

Also you cannot use Ori Blind Forest save in Ori Blind Forest DE and vice versa.

That's right, forgot about that. Might be a good last resort.

I only have the one version installed, and it's not an old save file. Let me run the above solutions quickly...

Oh goodie. Just renamed a random backup file and the saves are all back. I changed nothing else. I wonder what could have changed?

How do you do this on a steam deck?

Never used one, but I know you can switch to desktop mode, maybe you can find the save folder and change the names that way. No idea where they would be though.
