What do the big blue flowers do?

As the title says. I'm fairly early in the game, and I've come across some of those big blue flowers that can be destroyed with the charged up fire move. If destroying them benefits me I don't see how. If destroying them does nothing I'd like to know so I stop wasting my energy.

The rewards for those items are variable. Sometimes health, sometimes energy, sometimes both, sometimes nothing obvious. However, if you're within 25, 49 or so points to ranking up then destroying them will boost you to you next XP level, replenishing anything expended. Think of them as surprise packages.

You're likely going to retrace these areas anyway for total completion, so if you're economizing early just wait until you have multiple Energy Cells -- or Energy Shards located nearby -- and come back to these later in the game.
