What are these glowing blue garlic-shaped things?

I keep finding these garlic-shaped blue glowing things (garlic rocks?), and I'm wondering what they are, and whether they have any interesting uses or properties. You can see an example of what I'm talking about in the upper-right of

It doesn't seem like it can hurt you. The spirit flame will shoot into it, but this doesn't cause the object any damage. It can apparently help you jump higher, e.g. if you stomp down into it.

I suspect it may have other interesting features, but I don't know. Ideas?

Well that certainly works. Thanks. I'm feeling dumb, though. Is there any advantage to getting rid of them? They seem harmless.

A bunch of spirit light (exp) comes out. You didn't notice?

No, I didn't notice the extra spirit light. Maybe it wasn't quite as big an increase as I was expecting. I guess I'll pay more attention on the next one!
