Wait for sales if you want a discount.
You could have got the game for a lowwer price but that ended a few months ago.

According to the site, Is There Any Deal, the biggest discount on Steam so far has only been 50%.

I'll get it in the summer sale if it goes to 75% - which is what other owners of the original paid. I regret not using the coupon I had, I just didn't want to replay the game until now.

There was a discount for original owners but I forget if it was a timed deal. It likely was a timed deal to stop people getting the upgraded version for a bargain long after the deluxe edition was released.

While it isn't clearly written here, it looks like there was a 90 day expiry for the deal (according to comments): http://steamcommunity.com/games/387290/announcements/detail/841436854593267912

The actual news post implies the voucher you receive has a 90 day expiry, not that the distribution of vouchers will end after 90 days.

What this person said. Over 7 months at a massive discount and then 90 days of voucher...
It is sad that you missed out. Next Steam sale is coming in around a months time iirc. Look out for it there!

No, it's because Steam does not allow concurrent discounts on a single game, so while they had the discount applied for owners of the original they couldn't participate in sales. This was a workaround.

I've been looking forward to playing Definitive (sequel announcement was the push I needed), but was unaware of the coupon/expiration date situation until today. Didn't seem that urgent given multiple reassurances from the dev team that the discount would be unlimited for owners of the original.

I understand why they switched to the coupons, but if they're not still providing coupons then they've broken an explicit promise.

Im in the exact same boat.... i had no idea coupons were handed out.

I only just happen to come across the paragraph where they mentioned they were handing out a "90 day" coupon today (coz of the 50% off discount), which was apparently announced AAAGES ago. Honestly dont understand why it had an expiration.

Feels really awks having to spend US$10 when I alrdy have the original...... :S
Yeah I was also unaware I had a coupon for this. Sort of frustrating that their news update implies that this is current because it is the most recent update. Won't be buying it anytime soon, they should remove that news post or make a new one.

Yes, please remove the news post since it doesn't do anything but add confusion. Thanks.

The news post is dated October 2016 and says the voucher is valid for 90 days. How is it adding confusion?

How did people never see their coupons? Unless you didn't actually open the Steam client for three months it seems hard to miss.
RobertoHaste Jun 15, 2017 @ 5:38am
Same for me, I missed it :'(
But I'll spend 10$ with no doubt. This game deserves it

Add me to the list of people who didn't know about a coupon. Lots of games have perma discounts built into their store page for these types of upgrades, to blame users for missing the time frame seems rather short sighted and stupid.

But it is the steam forums, so not surprising.
