How to unlock maps and characters?

Ive seen videos where there was a chameleon character and like 4 new maps. how do i unlock these?

Not sure if its random or timed.
Just play around a bit, and you will see a question mark on a level.
When your inside the level, you will see a box with balloon on the top left corner.
You then must knock it down (I belive by touching it) the box will then fall and a new level should unlock. I think this is also how you unlock skins and characters...

Im not an expert on this, you have to ask the creators or other players.
But basically play until a crate can be obtained, then try to touch it.
