flares?!
Im sure the first thing I get in response to this is gonna be the usual "um acshully" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but listen, the flares are just too inconsistent. Every form of lock on can easily bypass a vehicle sporting two of them. Unless i commit to a full dive/spin unloading flares im almost always getting hit by something. Trombone spam for one, but hurricanes seem to almost totally ignore the flares.

Why doesn't it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ work

Why does a legendary module/weapon get beat out by purple launchers. If it was just the hurricane than sure, maybe, but even then, what really is the point? They don't hold enough ammo they very often fail to stop missiles of almost any type, and they're legendary?

These things are actual garbage and it's heartbreaking

apparently just stack argus modules, flares but they work!

I put the flare launcher so it's 2 blocks up vertically with the tubes facing forward. When missiles start coming you have to wait until they're relatively close then hold down the button and spam them while rolling away or dropping down.

Keep in mind if they made the flares that strong they would be rather imbalanced since they require no energy.

My man i know how to use them. Im not a mongrel. But the legendary homings seem to flat out ignore the shoot, spin, and drop technique far too often, to a point of what feels like, like i said, inconsistency. If these flares were purple qual and the launchers legendary sure fine whatever but the only launchers we have are expensive legendaries. You typically need to add ammo in some way to make them worth more than a few uses (because people did spam, though the spam feels a lil less these days i could be lucky) making that ever present margin of error even more of a bad deal because just a couple of that could of incoming missiles is all it takes to bust the whole heli.

All in all i just wish there was different tiers of flares. ♥♥♥♥ dude could make the purple rarity a sort of diagonal/45 degree angled launchers, uncommon could be simply half the package of the legendary. As for the legendary launchers i just wish the flares were less inconsistent. Im not talking about me using them wrong im talking watching missile fly RIGHT through them. And often i find it’s the legendary homing missiles that tend to ignore the suggestion of flares. It makes them barely worth taking aside from the fact that they are literally free energy-wise. And i think they are cool as ♥♥♥♥ so that’s my stake in it im tired of the super cool flare poppers failing at their one job despite doing everything right because there’s too many missiles, or the missiles are getting through despite what tactics you use, it doesn't feel like balance it feels pointless. There’s a reason people spam argus or just slap the cheapo stealth unit on. Every other option that costs energy isnt also inconsistent as ♥♥♥♥. They shoehorned flares in to only legendary tier and instantly made them the weakest countermeasure, they don't require energy sure but they require volatile ammo which imo is a worse trade if your heli has no need of extra explosives inside of itself. Once your build for flares being useful now you’re a much easier target for for dudes who run scorps and other snipey penetrative loadouts. Obviously this is a sort of rock paper scissors that much of the game tries to follow, it just seems to me in most practical cases i am working way harder to make the flares and all their magnificence actually do the job of one stealth generator and a key press.

Then again stealth has addon modules and special cabins. A cabin that focused on making flares a perfectly viable alternative to stealth would also be a decent way to make them feel less like a fun gimmick and more like a thought out utility.
