Hovers are great for quick reacting pvp builds AND are THE standard if you do race mode and want to win - even though I wish they werent as effective in races.
Tracks are great for soaking damage in pvp, but thier speed and turning is limited, and they dont from a physics standpoint act as 'heavy' (in terms of bieng pushed around or bieng driven underneath) as they should act.
Basically, tracks for heavy builds where you wanna soak damage on your sides, hovers for quick builds and races, and avoid legs until you've got alot of other stuff, and want something different that fits into a very narrow niche of playstyle.
I like to crawl up hills and cliffs to take shortcuts. If you are one of those users who have buyers remorse, you'll quickly sell something you don't try. There are a number of locations legs can get tracks and wheels cannot.
Sniping players with cannons at a angle ,hanging off a cliff is great.
Also if you build a low cabin, the "Knees" of the spider legs absorb explosive and contact damage protecting your generators and other soft stuff. Meaning legs are like a low wall. so less armor and partcount required.
