engines increase acceleration and give additional power that helps climbing hills.
1) If the engine speed is greater than the cabin speed, yes. Engine also increases weight capacity, so can help your build run more armor without going into yellow weight.
2) Beats me, I dunno. I can test it in a few hours.
3) You don't need an engine to operate large wheels or armored tracks or anything. Engines are not a must-have component. Probably a good idea to get them but they are not MUST have.
All that ;) And eveluate IF you "need" an engine or not. Takes 'energy' to have one, AND IF you build properly, you might not need it.
