Nomads are in the middle with their speed and armor statistics. They have different machineguns wich are good at most ranges and are a bit more robust in comparison to the lunatic weapons and do alot damage over time. In addition you have flying drones and good weapon cooler. Scavengers have strong armor and are slow. Their weapons are slow firing, hard hitting and can take alot of shots themself. The weapons are cannons and turrets.
You can alwaya change your faction later once a day so dont worry to much about your decision now.
EDIT: And for start dont build first few things by yourself sell material and get two fuel barrels (Fuel Barrel common and Fuel Tank Rare ) this will give you 15 fuel per win
This way, you will get a good base for structural parts and you will see what gives each faction. Then you choose which one you prefer !
Not totally true. Every players will level-up on all factions. It unlock building parts. Enable players to craft. No matter players pay real money in or not. Building parts can't be bought.
Have look at their website.

Engineers: We all have to start somewhere don't we? There is the case here, for starters you can get some decent stuff from them until you reach higher levels with other factions "jack of all trades master of none" I would say
Lunatics: Well... Pretty self explanatory, if you like going like a kamikaze with fast, light, low durable builds BUT with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of damage potential this is for you
Nomads: A bit more tactical, and focused for more medium to long range with their machine guns and autocannons (My fav faction <3) some weapons can take a bit to get used to, but they are really worth it
Scavengers: Basically, the tank faction, heavy armor, tracks, and cannons, meant for more slow, durable builds that can take a lot of damage
From this on the other are kinda the same, but upgraded in some way
Nomads upgrade - Dawn Children (second fav faction <3): If you enjoy making players salty, this is your faction :P and it's great for more futuristic builds, with energy weapons that require some skill, they can do a lot of damage, but synthesis quasar and prometheus ( I know it's not in the faction but come on.. We all know where that thing belongs :P) have travel time which you will have to control at longer ranges
Scavengers upgrade - Steppenwolves: Military themed faction, kinda like Scavengers, their theme revovles around heavier builds, kinda lacking of parts atm tho :/ but the Mech legs and the TOW are really fun to use
Lunatics upgrade - Firestarters: If hell doesn't come to you, you bring hell to them, fire, speed and explosions is a sum up of this guys
