latest update seems to gave broken the game when launched the icon appears in my task bar but the game window never comes up.

Try verifying your game files, there have been a few problem and 1 hotfix has already been issued. post back if your issue isn't fixed.

Try launching with a clean local storage

Updating or reinstalling PA does not impact the Data Directory.
You can start a clean copy of PA without deleting your
existing Planetary Annihilation Data Directory by using
the "--localstorageurl" command line parameter.
