Can't go online on PA:Titans

I've recently bought Planetary Annihilation: Titans thinking that it would be a really fun game to play online and as a general RTS, except i cant go online.

When i click on the multiplayer option in the main menu and custom games theres a yellow box saying 'No connection to PlayFab servers was found. New games will be hosted locally'. Whenever i try connecting to the servers a message pops up saying that its trying to connect only to quickly disappear and then nothing happens. I've changed some of the settings to see if anything would happen... it didn't.

I've tried solving this problem myself but I've had no luck and have tried looking for information on how to solve the problem.

I'd REALLY appreciate some help with this problem as its annoying not being able to play with other people and singleplayer can get boring after a while.
