Also i have some issues with my mouse. I'm buying a new one tomorrow and whether it'll be better. But putting mouse aside zooming in and out with keyboard is very slow and i didn't find a way to quicken it.
For normal game play, use the sliders in game Settings > Camera.
I think that the slider for key pan speed also affects key zoom speed and that the slider for zoom speed is for the mouse scroll wheel, but I can't test that right now.
I'll play for a few hours during next 10 days and if i won't get any problem with camera, i'd be sure that old mouse was the major problem and you could think about this thread as 30 y.o. man nagging and winning thread.
P.S. controls are
Default keyboard controls for Zoom are the Control key + Up or Down arrow. I find that to be very quick.

Anyway thanks. This thread can be closed for now.
In general the game is good and i like it but interface and camera are the worst. I haven't seen(or at least can't remember) the game with worse interface and camera.
Thread can be closed by moderator. I won't write anything else here and advise you do the same. I expressed my opinion and partly solved my problem.
The game is meant to be played/navigated with a mouse. The fact that they provide keyboard controls as an alternative is just icing on the cake for me.
But hey, I get it. I'm as guilty as anyone else of being the inspiration for the famous quote:
You need to fine tune your camera zoom speed and friction in the Camera tab under settings, including in the middle of a game to help get the right fit for you. (can use idle AI, or use the sandbox mod for quick launch games)
I personally started off slow, then increased my mouse pan, zoom, and other settings to be faster over time.
You can also try using camera anchors, its a hotkey (under Settings>Keyboard>Camera) which 'saves' a location, then you can recall that position with a press of a button to help orientate yourself.
There is also Align To Pole ('Pole Lock' under Settings>Camera for the baseline setting and Settings>Keyboard>Camera for the toggle hotkey) which changes how the camera moves around the planet, with its axis point anchored at the two poles instead of free flow.
Hope that helps resolve your issues with the camera.
Sorry man shouldn't have posted that, contributed nothing positive. I just get a bit defensive as I'm a bit of a fan.
What the heck are the diffrences betwenn SET and Toggle in the Hotkeys?
That toggle is toggling between what??
I always hated this not working hotkey from the beginning to now on.
It is not toggling!
What I want? I just want to switch between the planet view and the free view with one key (space).
So what I have to do is set two keys to planet view and free view.
The toggle is crap.
