building catalyst on metals problem
im still just practising and have an oppertunaty to use a metal planet to destroy the ai with, thats basically how im practising, to try out various ways to annihalate my opponent.
But on this metal planet i cant place all the catalysts down?
Eathere theres a metal spot...i think...in the way? and or i put a building in the otheres way...
is there a way to make buildings self destruckt and how do i build the catalyst if a metal spot is in the way?

Sometimes I've noticed if the building unit isn't near enough to the catalyst build spot or if its not got a full view of the area it can fail - so I tend to move my builders nearby and then issue the build order.

You can use a builder to deconstruct a building and somewhere there is a self-destruct command but I forget what it is (crtl+d or delete key or something along those lines - shift+delete or d might be it).

You can destroy the building by selecting it and pressing the delete key (on the keyboard), but it will leave wreckage anyways which may still block the catalyst (it could be that it will be automatically reclaimed when you try to build the catalyst). Or you can reclaim the building with any fabricators and/or the commander. There should be a "reclaim" command in the command bar and a hotkey to set up in your settings. this will give you back the metal cost for the building and free the space.
the metal spot itself should not hinder the catalyst being built, only the extractor that is likely built on it will.

What If there's nothing in the way and a fifth catalyst can't be built? The build plans for 4 of them are white and a go, but the fifth is red and can't be built. Playing in a Galatic War. Do I need a technology from the star map to be able to build the fifth or something? Thanks.

If 4 are built and the fifth stays red so that you can't place it, either there is a structure or wreckage interfering.

That was my initial thought. But there is neither wreckage nor buildings in the way. One reading I found even said to be sure nothing was qued to be built (like a metal rig) in the way. None of those seem to be what's preventing the 1 of 5 from being able to be built. Can all 5 be built in Galactic War games?

Sure, unless there is some damage to the planet. iirc Each catalyst should have a blue (?) dot at the base of the building area. What I have seen sometimes, (watching others play), is that your fabbers might have to be right next to the build location before the build order will take.

Blue dots, yes. I just had a sub-commander up right next to it and the outlay was still red. The outlay on the four other sites is white. This is the second match I've tried to build the catalysts in and the first time the situation was exactly the same.

Sub-commander? or Colonel? You can't control a sub-commander. It has to be a fabber unit that you control and it has to be a fabber unit that has catalyst build capability.

For troubleshooting purposes, go to game Settings>Gameplay and set Show Build Previews to ALWAYS and set Build Preview Behavior to ALL. This will help make sure that there isn't something queued that's just a little too close

Must be Colonel, my bad. The large combat/fabrication bots built at the advanced bot factories.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The first time I encountered the error I believe I did have a metal rig qued to be built in the way. But the second time, having found out that that was likely to have been the problem, I made sure it wasn't the case. I'm not quite sure why the one catalyst build spot was always red. You mentioned some planets are broken?

Sorry I wasn't more clear. Some metal planets are purposely designed with obvious damage such that you are limited on where your units can travel and what is accessible. This does not seem to be the case here.

Please give me the details on your Galactic War and I'll see if I can reproduce the error.

such as: settings for size and difficulty of your GW and which system you are playing on when this occurs. And which faction

Playing as Foundation faction. Uber size. Absurd difficutly. Versus Seeker Lampades (with a Desert and Metal planet).

Yeah, that's a lot of systems that I have to play through. Can you get me a screen shot so that I can work my way straight to the system that's giving you trouble?

The Print Screen button on my keyboard doesn't do it. Thought maybe it was F11 for Steam. What's the key to snap the screen?

Go to game Settings>Graphics and make sure your game's display mode is Windowed.

Then try the print screen button. Print screen copies to the clipboard. Then you paste into MS Paint or your preferred image editing software.
