In most ways PA is more like TA than supcom, no upgrades etc. WYSIWYG
PA is faster paced with more unit spam,(popcorn units). expansion and aggression is rewarded, (not much scope for a small base turtle), with planets as maps so not corners to hide in. With planet smashing.

And tough planetary annihalation is a very fun game it will never have the charms of supcom...
I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love this game. Grew up on TA and couldn't really get into supcom
Why do you think they're greedy?
I would not say greedy (gamers today call everything that's not free greedy so...).
But i do can say that the quite big funding they had could be better spent on other things then some of the things they did...
The reality is there was NOT a lot of funding.
Creating a brand new engine + game in less than two is pretty impressive.
Most games are built on existing engines that do all the heavy lifting created by big development teams over many years.
eg unity3d is 11 years old and supported by a company with 1000+ employees.
A 30 person indie developer with a loaded cost of $75,000 per person is $2.25m per year excluding any external costs like servers and contractors.
Kickstarter takes 5% and payment processing takes another ~5% so you're left with 90% excluding any KS promotion costs.
That's why it's so sad when people complain about a ~$15 titans upgrade where steam takes 30% of that.
You need a lot of sales and upgrades just to pay for servers and lot more to sustain an active development team.

The biggest (and most greedy)thing they have done is even though the PA was far from finished, they kickstarted a we IP called "human resources". After all the proce and bug ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and then making a new game without finishing the first one seem to send a clear message that the all the thing devs care about is money. Even if some people might argue otherwise, to many affended people, it was like shouting a african-american nixxxr and then saying they didn't mean it.
And then finally the TITANs. Let's be honest, do you REALLY think this has to be a standalone and not a DLC? Is there any difference except there are titans? Hell, even the galatic war was exactly the same.
They might have been low on money, but that does not gives them the excuse, nor excludes them from the responsibiliy, of their behalf.
You really need to check your timelines... nothing was *just* launched.
The steam early access pricing in June 2013 was clearly stated and matched to price Kickstarter to be fair to KS backers. It was completely optional and there were options to wait for beta and release at lower prices.
Everyone knows classic PA was forced into release too early in September 2014 (15 months later) and that communication about ongoing development was poor.

Servers are still provided and both Titans and Classic PA still receive updates. That's not greedy.
It's almost 2017 now and a lot has changed since 2013. You seem to be stuck in the past.
Classic PA continues to receive updates and matches the Kickstarter trailer pretty closely. Watch it again.
Titans as a standalone was the only smart choice and it's no different than a DLC.
Same content, same price... it's just packaging.
Starting a new game based on the existing engine was the only way to keep the entire dev team intact.
Without HR funding the dev team was decimated.
That's not greed... it's the reality of game development and business.
HR would have funded the entire team and continued development of the engine benefiting PA in so many ways.
