You'll get more Commander options as well as an "Easier Start" option so that you can tech up faster.
It is an indy game, and it's not shallow at all it's just the depth of the game becomes more apparent when playing against good human players.

Well, mostly because I have already moved on to a better game, Ashes of the Singularity
Ashes is a good game but for me there was not enough unit variation that and going back to flat map's was a step down in depth. Tbh I think sup com Faf is still a better game than Ashes.
(mod difficulties, the vanilla diff is a freaking walk in the park)
if you play enugh you can unlock a commander that has the normal start with all units and all stuff
