PA can be quite exciting esports wise due to how fast the game moves but allows for decent amounts of downtime, as long as the caster sets a double PIP in both bases which makes up for a lack of minimap.
Issues atm are that single planet maps are the most used by competitive players, where as casual players love doing 10+ planet systems which tends to break crossover feel, not to mention the lack of late game mechanics like deep orbital units, T2, game ending mechanics are not seen in competitive whereas they are very likely seen in casual, causing a disconnect.
Clearly the servers are working as I joined other games but I cant seem host one.
