Dox are good raiding units, tanks are good for attacking fortified bases.
Currently the meta is to have bot factory first for fabber, combat fabber for com reclaim, then dox for raiding/defence from raiding, then usually a vehicle factory, for some anti air if needs and so you can build a t2 vehicle factory to start early lever spam, dox and other cheaper units are good to mix in with the levers to help take shots from other levers if fire isn't focused levers will over kill dox so they provide good padding to your forces and also help to kill boom bots which could counter levers otherwise.
I usually like to have spinner also to stop air from wiping out my armies, plus either some combat fabbers or scouts to spot mines.
But have a seperate bot factory or 2/3 build only dox and send them in small groups from all directions to the enemy. Having the enemy worry about his defences gives him less time to worry about yours.
They have a high production cost but it is totally worth it!
Roughly estimated two colonels can easily kill up to 50 dox.
Also I hate dox because if there are too many of them moving at once it ♥♥♥♥♥ up your simulation speed aka. performance in game.
