The guy has never played an RTS game - spewing out few letters of a game's title will probably not ring the guy any bells. Might even not know it's letters from a game title... it's like trying say something important to some1 who's deaf. It won't work.
There's also no traditional story-based singleplayer campaign. More like a sci-fi one instead.
Amazing RTS game, pretty easy to grasp and great campaign (with some cleavage) haha
Watch some YouTube videos see if you think you would like the gameplay.
If you do get the game make sure to play the tutorial to learn the ui with things like area command's. Playing on a sphere can take some getting used to but once you do it makes it hard to hi back to flat maps.
Especially the worlds (round maps) can be very confusing to new players. also because this game has also naval air orbital nukes nuke defence interplanetary and so on...
The wide array of weapons makes this a very hard game for newcomers to rts...
i suggest try supreme commander forged alliance or total annihalation since they look most to this game.
- If this is the first time you are playing a RTS, the scale of the battles and micromanagement is huge, so the learning curve is very step
- Overall, save the ability to fight in several planets at the same time, the game is not really innovative
- As other users mentioned, getting used to a round map can be a bit confusing at first
Another old school alternative to this game is Star Wars Empire at War, featuring both space and ground combat
But if you just want a futuristic setting, you can play Command & Conquer 3 (don't bother buying the fourth) and particulary, C&C Tiberian Sun (one of the best RTS in my youth)
Edit: Just want to point out it's not on Steam though.
There are many fairly good RTS games out there. Sir Prometus is right, that micromanaging here could be a little overwhelming for a first-time player, and fighting accross multiple "planets" can quickly become confusing if you're not accustomed to how RTS's work.
I personally would reccomend a game like Dawn of War: Soulstorm or Age of Empires III's complete collection for a good first time. They both use clear, communicative aesthetics and fairly well represent some of the major lines of thinking in modern RTS's, at an early age.
Good luck on your RTS journey!
