15 was the first "next gen" released for pc.
graphics wise nothing really changed till then.
gameplay wise not so much either.
stories are all kinda dull. nothing that will blow your mind :P
online is full of cheaters on PC. like literally.
so if you only wanna play career/offline i'd go for the least expensive.
you should be able to get 2k15 for like 5 € if you look around. and if you like basketball and don't care about online stuff that's definately worth it.
if you wanna play online go for console 17.
Did not buy 16 due to teh story by Spike Lee... giving bucks to a dude so he can have his name on a game... I was pretty sure from start that it would be not such a great thing and from all the things I've seen, I had far beter luck staying with 15 for all that time,a nd saved me money...
Now, on 17, honnestly I really like the player movements (big improvement IMO from 15) and now fast breaks ARE fast breaks... your teamate go for the basket... he does not ALWAYS stop at the 3pts line... as it was in 15....
You can create an expansion team in MyGM or MyLeague.
So overall, I would say IMO 17 worth it compared to 15... now if on a budget, then 15 is ok.
ps. There are way less cheaters than commonly believed, people often reflexively say someone is a cheater when they get a loss, so in their mind at some point everyone becomes a cheater.
I do expect this to get worse after Christmas, it always seems to be that way, when kiddies get the game from their parents for Christmas and they can stand to be behind the curve so they cheat to get instant gratification without the effort (damn millennials).
If you like to play in my career I would stay far away from spike lee horror movie (i.e 2k16)
2K16 yeah it sucked big time because of Spike Lee destroying MyCareer.
(I have reviews for 2K15 and 2K16 that go more in depth)
So far i have to say that while 2K17 has a nasty "We want your money"-approach in terms of VC it also adds some great stuff to the single player parts of the game. MyGM is better than ever, they fixed most of the legacy problems (everybody becoming a superstar, you becoming the super manager who makes people better by just being around) altough the difficulty is still a bit too low but starting with a new team actually has some challenge.
Same goes for MyLeague which is MyGM without the manager part. Creating your own team, draft and manage is really great this year.
The Career is also better, while you still have a forced nickname (and a stupid one) again at least it feels more like "MyCareer" and not "Here's a clichee story full of racist stereotypes for you" and the additions like the chats with your manager or other player are at least fun the first time around and having team members show up on your court to play is great, at least there is some "we're a team"-feeling going on.
If you wanna play online there's no way around 2k17, if you wanna play offline or just with your friends, then 2K17 is the best option too (wait for the christmas sale in any case, so you don't give 2K too much money)
Everybody disliked it because 2K hyped it like "Make your own story" and "You're in control" but it was a strict, stereotypical story full of cliche's and Lee's hating on everything that isn't black (notice how every non-black character is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, a ♥♥♥♥♥ or useless, Lee never held back that he's a racist, he even think that interracial relationships are wrong and shouldn't exist, it's sad that 2K gave that guy money) and it turned from "MyCareer" to "follow a story" and even in season 2 (after a disappointing rookie season) it never felt like your career, they still talked about stuff like the death of your best friend and other stuf.
i want the most complex thorough management sim
17 is a bit more challenging overall, before, it was too easy, you became a success no matter what. This year it seems you actually need to work and talk to your players (you get a funny message from your coach saying "You know when i was a kid i played mygm and just skipped through the season, it doesn't work that way in real life") and starting a new franchise from the ground up is a challenge.2K17 has easily the best version of MyGM. I started a new franchise and got Rose and Noah from the Bulls in return of my first round Pick but even then i had a mediocre team and it showed, it was hard to get the team going anywhere for the first 2 seasons
Also notice that it's as "complex" as you want, if you want to go deeper into the training planning of your players individually, and developp more reboundings or mid range shooting (though I can't compare to 14 as I never had it... ) for this or that player, and passing for your SF for instance... (This was also available in 15 though... so maybe nothing new for you)
Also, one thing you can now do with your staff... they are not only locked to the position they want... you could very well promote your coaching assistant into an other position like finance or scooting... so it's pretty more open for positions...
Oh and mid season summer league... I find that pretty interseting to test players that are not part of your roster... while your stars rests... so maybe not filling your roster too early and keep 2 - 3 spots available may be a good thing now
Yeah don't expect any indepth manager sim, it's not football manager (the same with WWE 2K's Universe mode being a joke compared to Total Extreme Wrestling, those games are meant to be simulations and try to be the best in the business while WWE or NBA want to be a Jake of all Trades in that regard))
Altough MyGM is a lot mroe interesting this year with staff having more of a personality, players having character and can be annoyed even if you declare them the star of your team and the rule changes that can happen (and you can take part in them) are interesting. Shot Clock down to 20 seconds or raised to 30 seconds? 5 second court violation removal?, it makes the game interesting, they haven't been in here before.
The one thing that really "spiked" out was you were born in Harlem and had black parents and a black twin sister, no matter your skin colour......
how silly is that?
In 2K17 you will need more VCs to create your player anyway, the cowmilking analogies were on target
