Defensive stopper badge and cheaters?

I'd like to know something cause i got many different opinions on this subject: how it really works defensive stopper badge? I mean what the bronze level does exactly and how can affect player I defend on if my archetype is not lockdown defender?
I know that gold or hof version of this badge can reduce other badges (so only lockdown defender can do it) but can the bronze level do it or am i facing a cheater when i see this?

the thing i m the most curious is about downgrade badges , i'd really like to know how it works exactly, especially if bronze badge can downgrade hof or gold ones, i agree wiht u this is one of MUST HAVE badges to play competitive

Bronze version reduces 1 level, Silver 2 levels, Gold 3 levels, HOF can negated if the opponent's badge is under HOF.

Other game we played against a slasher, he had over 30 badges and defensive stopper bronze. He was my man. I made a dunk against him and it popped up, right corner, reduce posterizer bronze to zero, but only that badge in this game! And that guy was definitely not a cheater.

So we did a test in 1v1v1. My friend has defensive stopper bronze, so i dunked near him and he only hold left trigger for intense D. No reduce. After trying it a few times with other positions near the rim (always with dunks) it popped up!


I am coming to the conclusion that:

defensive stopper bronze can reduce a bronze badge, i dont know how many but for sure posterizer and perhaps acrobat, but not so many as a "real" lockdown defender. It seems to me you need body contact to your opponent and the correct position.


A "real" lockdown defender can reduce more badges, i think every badge who has influence on the offense, for example dimer, flashy passer, pick and roll maestro, all shot badges, posterizers, acrobats and so on.

Defensive stopper hall of fame reduce for example hall of fame catch and shot to bronze. So
the gold version will reduce it to silver and silver will reduce it to gold. And silver will reduce every bronze badge which has influence on offense.

But on the whole the only way you see a real cheater is, if he reduces your hof badges to gold or below.

This reflects my ingame experience as well. I have never seen a silver badge reduce 3 levels or anything as it was said here earlier. I do believe that the defensive stopper badge negates only certain other offensive badges.

I do know for sure that it counters the following:

1. Difficult Shots
2. Midrange Deadeye
3. Longreange Deadeye
4. Posterizer
5. Relentless Finisher
6. Teardropper
7. Catch & Shoot
8. Corner Specialist

On other Badges i would have to do certain testing.

I definitely retract what i said earlier in this thread.
Bronze stopper does nothing for dropping other badges. I feel that it is only maybe making you a slightly better defender, and withstand ankle break moves better (no hard data here :D).

Playing NBA opponents with Silver and Gold defensive stopper badges i noticed that silver stoppers drop your badges by 1, and gold stoppers drop badges by 2 ranks. It makes sense that HoF stoppers will drop 3 ranks, so like HoF catch and shoot to Bronze catch and shoot.
And if silvers only drop 1 rank.... it makes sense that bronze stopper drops 0 ranks.

But YEAH, 2k should just POST this crap or put it in the badge description... what is the mystery good for????

Bronze maybe drops some offensive skills by 1-3. only paint protecter & lockdown defender can drop bagdes with silver+. anyone else who drops bagdes that isn't that archtype is cheating.

It's simple really. Defensive Stopper removes to every opponent badge "[DS level] - 1" levels. Bronze DS badge? No cancel, just attribute reduction (as it says in the description), HoF cancels gold badges (because 4 levels of DS, minus 1, reduces 3 levels, i.e. gold), reduces HoF to bronze, etc...

To verify this you can try playing with different players in Blacktop. Some current players have various levels of offensive badges and defensive stopper.
