Best wrestling game ever?
So I bought this and started playing this game for like 6 hours straight. Is this the best wrestling game ever made? Cause the graphics, realism, gameplay is all there. Is more complete than any sports game I have ever played on PC. Like how will they top this??

I like the way that it's a sim rather than a fighter - it's tactical and you have to actually think about using reversals, and so on.

The amount of content is crazy as well.

Definitely the best non-fighter wrestling game I've ever played.

But yes, there could be improvements - custom music, GM mode, and so on. Mostly stuff that people have said already.

I do have my critics for this game and it still miss some features of previous 2KXX titles, by the final result still is very nice and totally took me by surprise.

The gameplay is smooth, the controls seens responsive and intutive and while it can be complex, it took me no much more than 3 or 4 matches to got the control of what I'm doing.

The bigguest highlight to me definitely is the stamina system combined with the reversal bar. In no other wrestling game I played, neither from the old SNes, N64, PS2 or PC, you have a system to properly balance the mayhem of wrestler throwing move after move and reversing all of the time. To manage your stamina and reversal actually adds a news strategy depth to the game wich is very nice. This difference also solved a problem of previous 2KXX, where there was almost no difference to play with an newbie wrestler or a legend, but now with the reversal system it's really a challenge to go with the green guy against a maniac like Bret Hart, Stone Cold or that beast Undertaker.

Also, I did loved the miny games for pin, submission, Royal Rumble, chain gappling and such. Generally I HATE miny games in a competitive game, but actually does on 2k16 suits very fine, especially because they are no luck games and demands some skill and attention, plus the influence of your fighter skills and stamina/life conditions. It's a balance between arcade and skills, in my opinion.

If I do think it is the best WWE game ever? Probably not, but for sure it will be a new milestone and one of the bests. If the developers don't start to cut content out on previous games and actually add even more content, WW 2k17 or 2k18 may become a unstopabble beast and that's for sure.

It actually remembers me how well the WWE games evolved over the time on PS2 with WWE: Smackdown vs RAW but started to got out of tracks in the next console generation until that trashy 2k15... but now it seens the WWE game series found it true destiny once more. If WWE 2k16 become a milestone to a new series in a evolution like Smackdown vs RAW, I think we will have a new "probably best WWE game ever" every year.

I'd say it is the best wrestling game made to this point. Sure games like HCTP were more fun at the time but this game actually feels like wrestling. No longer are we in the era of button mashing arcade wrestling games, where every single move is reversed and nothing happens. Playing this makes me feel like I'm almost just watching wrestling which is what a wrestling game should make me feel like.

Now instead we are in the era of pretty GFX but no content and similar moves/gameplay along with "hyped" supposed to be innovative gameplay that instead of mashing the botton are simple small "tidious" minigames!!!

I don't think many of you played the games 10-13 years ago!! if you had you would notice all the massive amount of content we have lost in wrestling games!! now its purely a 1 trick pony like so many other games around and a large one.

Yeah that's what I thought a couple of times, I thought i'm actually watching a wrestling match not a madly run around the ring reversing everything arcade fest. Can things be improved, always, that's what sequels are for, but its getting closer to the show.

Yeah. A couple of hours ago I played an online match - Cena v Reigns - early on we were chain wrestling, chucking a few reversals in here and there, the occasional punch/basic takedown. It looked almost exactly like the start of a WWE match.

It ended pretty quickly, because I haven't got the hang of kicking out of pins yet, but that's just practice. But on the whole, it's so much more fluid and realistic than it used to be.

I remember the old PS1 games. They were great for their time, but time's moved on, and for me, the changes are definitely for the better.

other than the online lag yeah!, most annoying part is when lag causes u to miss ur chance to get out of being pinned

But what exactly are we missing? I am curious cause I played wrestling games 10-13 years ago. I can think of one thing ok maybe two things. Being able to control managers in matches, and maybe some backstage fights. Everything else we have in spade here.

I have already answered this like 15 times but people don't wanna look back and read... I don't wanna keep posting the same over and over but I will bite and give you a few (but fast I got some other things to take care off atm)

-MyCareer is severly lacking in many areas! the only thing we have atm is play a match then "if lucky" reply to a static "1 out of 3 picks" then play another similar match nd you do that a few times.. there is no soul, no gimiicks, no real rivary you guys claim its not just about fighthing etc its a show!! well there is not much show to it compared to SvR (it had all and you could even draft, make friends/enemies for real and it didnt have 1 static fight each week but rather weekly setups where winning was not all that mattered.

As for the bugs/glitches they are gamebreaking for many and if you see the dev forum its spammed "we even have alot here" the moves are few and similar, the matches are similar to eachother and we don't have many modes.

The online feature is awful and does not work well

We have talked about the reversal and submission system and both are awful!

I think its one of the worse but better than 2015.

Even some of my old NES wrestling games are far better than this! "almost even in realism"
The problem with this game (not just the port) is that it has almost no features and that its a soulless shell..

Are the gameplay good? no are it bad ? no.. its fairly avg in most part.. but there is simple to few features and gameplay is tidious (sure its not botton smashing, but its still very simplestic and not fun)

Most of the games are the exact same without any life... it feels dead.. Old games like SvR 2004 feel alive and you are engaged.. that I can't say for this.
I think it is hard discuss your "feelings" on the game, because you did not give any arguments to illustrate. Maybe you should try your NES game once again and see, if its really that fun... ;-) For me this depends on the context you have as a player: you probably were an enthusiastic child, when you played NES, now you are an adult and seemingly harder to excite.

I am also not jumping around my PC being fascinated as I was, when i had my first matches in wwf raw on SNES, for which i had waited months, but trying to be objective this is by far the best wrestling-simulation and -game ever made, mainly because it really catches the flow and drama of real matches (i have lost really tough matches to the AI and was still satisfied). The new restricted Countersystem works well, the wrestlers movements have the right pace and the build up and drama around finishing moves, two-counts and submissions just "feels" close to the real wrestling. Also there are a lots of details in animations and textures, that make most of the wrestlers of that huge roster unique.

I ignored you for a couple of reasons:

First you dont own the game. Ok, you may have played it with a friend or own it in console, but you may also never played it at all and are giving your options based in gameplay videos and written reviews. Anyway, this isn't important at all.

I don't play WWE games since 10~13 years ago, fact. I play it since 20 years ago. I played it on Mega Drive and SNes, on N64, on PS2, XBox 360 and the few ones that actually came to PCs (mostly ports). WWE Wrestle Mania The Arcade Game for SNes and Mega Drive will ever be the best to me because was the first one I played and that still rest beautifully in my mind. But I'm not a child anymore and we are not in 1995 also. Wrestling games evolved along the decades and changed. We had nice steps like N64 No Mercy and PS2 Smackdown vs Raw and terribles one like like WWE 2k15.

So the point is: we had seens a hell of an amount of content in the last decades and if you put all of them in your mind and compared WWE 2k16 against it, of course the recent game will be missing. But wich game had all of this content? Smackdown vs Raw had some cool things that WWE 2k16 is missing, fact, like creating you own moves. But WWE 2k16 also have some very important thins that Smackdown vs Raw is missing, and MAINLY and MOST IMPORTANTLY and much more balanced gameplay and smart gameplay, where reflex to push a button in the right time is not the main turning point in a fight and now you actually have to manage your resource and don't waste them idly. And one thing you said: playing with different wrestlers was ALMAYS basically the same thing in 90% of wrestling games, while 2k16 actually made a step foward with the reversal bar and the different amount each wrestler has.

About the minigames, they are not bad. They came first still in SNes with WWF Royal Rumble, exists ever since and is very present in basically any major WWE game on the last 10~15, and Smackdown vs Raw introduced the current basic games still in 2004, so no point criticizing it now. What WWE 2k16 did was actually introduce some new ones that, in my opition, did great not only to enrich the game but also to balance it more. The chain grappling may still be weird to some, but still it did great to make fights more related to the real thing and are a nice early-fight feel. The pin minigame is very easy and way better than button smashing because you can actually see if you just dont hit the button right or you wrestler was REALLY trashed. The subsssion minigame one is a familiar to me since they bring it from UFC Undisputed game series and while it's the harder of all of them it is also a very nice adttion so submissions are not a matter of hitting a button and watching clueless if you are winning or loosing the submission. The one wich are wheels where you must find the sweet spot is by far the most luck based one and the AI even on normal is oddly fast most of the times in finding it, but I still thing it works nice on grappling chains because it's not longer a matter of hitting R2 with nimble reflex.

After, speaking about the general result, you only is talking about the bad sides of 2k16 or where it is missing without never ever considering what good it offers. This game have it flaws? Of course it have, and some bothers me a lot. But it also have it hits and some pleases me a lot. The final result to me maybe not be the best WWE game ever, of course, but is the most fluid WWE gameplay so far. It also actually made some strong gameplay changes and balances that go way behiond just adding more of the same, something that not really happened frequently since the very first Smackdown vs RAW in 2004, when WWE games remained basically the same for several years... and that was nice for a time since they kept refining it but at some time the looked to run out of ideas and the games was basically the same... worst than that, they started to cut content in later titles, but WWE 2k16 fortunately brought some of them back and I hope it will be the milestone that will mark a new sequency of good games like the first Smackdown vs Raw did. And most of all: 2k16 gameplay is much more fluid than any Smackdown vs Raw one ever was.

So the point is: WWE 2k16 got it flaws and hits, but it come to a nice result that is a breath of air to the series. Ok, the game may not get into your personal taste, but it made into a lot of peoples personal taste and it's not the ♥♥♥♥ thing your are trying to paint. I probably played more WWE games than you, don't know, but I'm sure I played a lot over 2 decades, and I still think that 2k16 made a place for it own amoung the previous ones. It may not be N64 No Mercy, but N64 No Mercy also is not WWE 2k16, and that's all.

Best wrestling game of 2016...

That said:

  • I despise every mini-game, but the worst is Ladder title matches. I can't describe how long I was undoing the damn knot on that belt, only to have the ladder pushed out from under me and dangling helplessly in the air, inevitably crashing down on the ladder and breakin' my back. I would grab the belt and mess with it for like a solid minute, and then the ladder's gone, crash to the floor, and the opponent tries. Opponent grabs the belt, messes with it for like a full minute while I'm busy trying to get up, then I knock the ladder out from under them, and begin my full-minute attempt.

This basically continued for like an hour until both of us were about to die, and then finally Natalya got the damn Female Hardcore Championship belt untied. Naomi is not too happy.

  • Can't properly name a championship belt. That Female Hardcore Championship belt can't include the name Championship. Doesn't fit. Too many letters (?). There is a belt called the World Heavyweight Championship. I'd like to know how they managed to name it that. No way I could fit that many letters. Is there some kind of reason for this?!

These mini-games keep costing people their titles. I have never gotten out of a submission, and never submitted anyone. Should be unsurprising I've never successfully defended a title. Even pins can go wrong. I lost my first match cuz of a single pin. It shouldn't even be possible for someone to be pinnable right away. I should have no problem at all easily kicking out if I took almost no damage, but a couple mistimed presses means you lose. Timed button presses like that don't belong in a pin.

  • Online is a laggy mess. My benchmark gives me a C rank, whether I have all graphics at max, or all graphics turned to minimum, with shadows and AA turned off. Having V-sync turned off actually decreases my fps...

I don't know how, but so far I've managed to win 2 out of 2 buggy, laggy online matches.

  • Colors are messed up. Blonde hair has unexplainable "spots" on it, and making it lighter gives sort of a greenish highlight. Brown hair turns to a motor oil color, and this type of issue happens with clothing too. I had the same exact issues with 2K15, but that one has a better fps after patches. The color issue was never fixed.

Best wrestling game...of 2016. (unless another wrestling game comes out this year)

2k14 is still better

loads of options are STILL missing here after the F-up which was 2k15
ZeroCorpse 2016년 3월 12일 오후 4시 52분
I kinda hate it.

* The submission system is awful.
* There are VERY limited selections for clothing on CAWs.
* There are VERY limited selections for announcer names on CAWs.
* There are 100 save slots, but no custom music. What the hell good are all those slots now?
* There's hardly any generic music for CAWs.
* The AI kicks out of pretty much any pin unless it's preceded by a finisher.
* The game doesn't even start when you hit "play" about 50% of the time.
* The entrances are bugged and sometimes there's no ring announcer at all.
* We're on PC, where we have access to our jpgs, but we still have to upload to 2K's site then download our logos and faces to the exact same PC we just uploaded them from. THIS IS STUPID.
* There are no body sliders to alter length of arms, legs, etc.
* The game crashes on start-up and then remains running in the background, which Steam counts as "play time" against your refund requests (I was denied because the stupid game was running in the background for a couple hours while I tried to find answers).
* If you're a WWE fan, there's no Hulk Hogan, no Rey Mysterio, and bunches of others missing.

And so on.

Yeah, it's great if you're a modern-day WWE fan and just want to play as the current roster or a select few of the classic wrestlers, but for CAW fans it's awful. It is probably the worst game so far in terms of CAW creation. Sure, the face uploading thing is cute, but it's USELESS if we can't find clothes, names, or assign custom music to our CAWs. It's like giving us a hot pot of soup and saying "you don't get a spoon, bowl, or oven mitts. Just stick your face in the pot if you want some."

If you'd have told me 2K Games would make the series WORSE than THQ did, I wouldn't have believed you. I would have been wrong. I wouldn't be shocked if they took out CAW creation altogether next year, as unfriendly as they're being right now.
