Exactly; you most likely won't get caught, but that doesn't make it any more legal.

Perhaps I could have worded it better, but what I meant was that you can emulate a console if you own it, and you can emulate a game if you own it(A major advantage is that even if the console or game is broken beyond repair, you can still emulate it; very useful to know if you come across a broken Sega CD/Mega-CD for cheap).

EDIT: Anyway, the Win95 version is more common, cheaper, and works on Windows as-is, so I see no reason to mess around with emulation when you can just do that.
with exception of the music maybe.
That bug is easy to fix; put the files from the disc on your PC, replace "WAIL32.DLL" with a newer version, and run the game from "WORM.EXE" in the assets folder. Only takes 5 minutes maximum. Less if you have fast internet.

Meanwhile, with emulation, you have to set up the settings so that the emulator works properly with your PC(Sure, it only takes a few minutes, but), then you have to find a BIOS for the system you're emulating, then -- since it's a Sega CD/Mega-CD -- you have to find the SCD/MCD BIOS, then you have to put it all together and you need to have a cue/bin of the game, so overall, it takes a while. Even if you already have an emulator set up, you have to rip the disc(Otherwise you get loading times through the roof), and that takes several minutes. Even longer if you accidentally rip it as an iso rather than a cue/bin.

But to be honest, if you want to go through the hassle of emulation, that's your decision to make, and if you already own that verison of the game, then I actually do recommend you go for that. But, for anyone who doesn't own any Special Edition version of the game, I recommend the Win95 version.

(How do my posts always end up so long? :L)

Perhaps, but it definitely takes longer to set up emulation.

i have two broken donkey kong country cartridges that come up with a region error even though it's a saving corruption one's AUS another is US, getting those physical copys was more of a waste of time then setting up emulation.

True, but you can't easily break a CD; if you get both the Win95 and SCD/MCD versions of Earthworm Jim, and you set each of them up on a PC, the Win95 version will be set up faster, and the game itself is cheaper.

that and you can skip through levels once you finish them :)
I would love to see the HD remake here, that would be awesome, I'm a huge fan of this game! *_*
+1 I would also like HD released on Steam. Mainly for co-op reasons and better graphics. If I want to play the original I can play it on Genesis Emu. Really not sure why people hate the HD version.
A. The original creators get no royalties for HD.
B. It's missing Big Bruty and Who Turned Out The Lights, both of which are in the Windows 95 version, which still works on modern versions of Windows.
C. It features stolen artwork(!!!).*
D. The hardest difficulty in HD is equal to the easiest difficulty in all the other versions of the game.

*The art in question was used without permission and the original artist didn't even know about it until the game was already on shelves. It still remains in the game to this day.

All these things are true about HD but no other version of the game(Except for the fact that only the Windows and Sega CD versions feature Big Bruty).

Correction: Big bruty is only in special edition. same goes with toilet levels in earthworm jim first level.
Go back and read the WHOLE comment, and then respond again.

One additional note: I'm comparing HD to the Windows 95 Special Edition version, because that version works fine as-is on modern Windows, and is therefore the ideal version to get if you want Earthworm Jim on your PC.

Even if earthworm jim sucks which i agree on, i'd rather install the old game, it's still nice with co-op mode. I would only buy it for that.
IMO, Earthworm Jim is one of the best platformers of the '90s. I just don't like the HD version.
