If you are looking for a game to chill out for a weekend you may give Jade Cocoon a try.
It's not to complicated but still fun to play.
@nexusrunner: You can collect and train your fairies but not breed them or fuse them together.
Compared with the pokemon games Zanzarah would be equivalent to Red/Green/Blue in regard of the available game mechanics.
Only that is plays in an 3d environment, has some little platforming added in some areas and the already mentioned altered battle system.
It's a PSX-title, a turn-based JRPG. It was one of the few jrpg's of the time that featured complete voice-acting, too - not even the praised Final Fantasy-games had voice-acting before the PS2 came out.
The story is a bit weird and short, but once you played through you could also play an endless-dungeon mode, and also fight 2-player-versus-battles in an arena-mode (which was awsome).
You basically fight monsters that you can also catch, train, crossbreed and eventually use in battle. It was a pretty fun game IMO. Having well-trained monsters is also key to victory, as the protagonist is really really weak in comparison and cannot take on the stronger monsters and bosses lateron.
The breeding was a fun aspect in many ways. Be it the visual appearance, the stats or the elemental combinations of the bred creatures - tricky stuff, but not overly complex.
It's a PSX and the second part a PS2 game. It's partly like Pokemon, with an unique fighting system, Where you place your monster on a dis, an turn this disc during combat, resulting in different effects.
Well, i have only played the first one but there was no such mechanic as i remember it.
A short description regarding that mechanic would be great.
