Also I really can't agree with the mmo part. Something like that would make me ignore the game the moment I would hear it's an mmo. Although I suppose there's nothing wrong with it having multiplayer elements.
have you played "shin megami tensei: imagine online". generally a good idea of a game, but it was too much of an asia grind MMO. Zanzarah could go a similar way when they keep the battle mechanics interesting enough it could actually succeed. But too many MMO's are about grinding and stuff like p2w beyond whats fun (but thats is often a good and quick money grab for the devs).
The only other similar games are pokemon and maybe soem older digimon ttitles, you can't deny the similarities of the fairy mechanics to the pokemon mechanics. However, Zanzarah makes a few things way more interetsing. The battles are more interactive and therefore less boring than the just button clickings of pokemon. Which is a PAINfuly boring experience to level grind your pokemon.
Also fairies and how they work with skills is much better than in pokemon. The way you can swap skills and rebuild them is a nice thing, Also allowing more interetsing testings and combinations to play around with but not requiring a huge regrind to test stuff.
Also zanzarah could go a more grown up way than pokemon who in games X still look cute. Zanzarah could make fairies look more mean and badass for some types as in terms of realism. Which I hoped Pokemon would alreay have gone into like games generations ago.
On the other side, "fairies" is still a strange subject at all.
Maybe a kind of co-op onlinw game would be the best. A big dealbreaker for MMO's is that they need a server to run which costs quie some money. Better would be a TF 2 like architecture. A centralised (steam) cloud profile storing achievements and unlocks and store related items oen bought. While players can run their games locally and also invite other people into their world for co-op. And similar to TF devs could charge money for cosmetic items and (non p2w) stuff. This would reduce the need of steady income to keep a server running and make it a free decision for people to play solo or together while still being able to sell people items via microtransactions.
