Problem running the game
I've noticed that I'm not the only one whose been having problems running this game since I brought it, and was wondering if anyone help me out if they know how. My problem's been that the game loads to the credits bit at the beginning (with the Shiny Entertainment & Interplay logos) before the game shuts down. I'm running Windows 7 64bit if it helps.

I can't imagine it being a problem with my graphics card or anything, as I downloaded the demo before I brought it and the demo ran fine. I've tried running it in capability-mode at different settings, and no luck finding anything on GoG or Interplay's forum. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks all

Nope, not a thing. Ended up buying it on GoG.com during their summer for about £2 and their version worked fine, so it's just a problem with Steam's version of this great game.

I just fixed a crashing issue. I opened my local files, through steam, and deleted teh shared.dll file then ran a file verafication check. It redownloaded the file and i ddint have any issues

I think I'm having the same problem. The game consistently crashes with the generic "Sacrifice has stopped working" error following the splash screen, I believe it's happening rght as it's trying to load the main menu.

What's strange is when I bought the game a year or so ago off Steam the game did work properly, at least after toying with the compatability settings. I tried reinstalling, updated my video card driver, tested several compatability settings, and now the steps suggested from the previous poster, but none of these change the outcome.

The game is an old favorite of mine, so this really blows.

Sounds good, and I hope it works out for you and anyone else having the same problem. But for me personally my laptop uses an integrated graphic card and not nvidia, so it won't work for me. Ah well, just have to stick to my gog.com copy :-)

what do you do if you dont have a nvidia card?

im so confused This works for me non steam verision but doesnt on steam ( i dont have nividia)
Is their no steam side fix to make this work?

I don't have an NVIDIA card either so I picked up the GoG version as a test.

The good news is the GoG version of the game works fine, so at least I can play again. Steam's will appear to launch and show the opening screen, but crashes shortly after when the main menu should be popping up. It's too bad there doesn't appear to be a better solution for those w/o NVIDIA cards.

Aye, same problem. It worked fine when I first bought it a while back. Which makes me wonder if some update to the Steam client made a mess of things since then. I might have to get the GoG version as well, though it's a little annoying to have to buy a game twice just to be able to play it =p

Given I have a Radeon card, the Nvidia help doesn't apply to me, regretfully.

If you use two graphic cards, like in a Laptop like mine. It is possible, that you running it with the intern graphic card, instead with the better one. It worked for me, to switch it in the nvidia settings to the better graphic card. Then it worked perfectly.

Its bull$h!t about it being an Nvidia only issue. Im trying to run it on an ATI chip same issue. I think the steam on doesn't work. Ill be impressed if anyone has it on steam working.

From the main menu of the game go to the resolution screen and select any 32 bit and not 16 bit with which it is set by default. I have done so and it works perfectly
