when I tried to run steam version it said "error setting screen mode"

but it did ran my retail CD version.

nvm I give up on this garbage. in the end it goes back to not running again.

Pretty sure this is a virus. The real patch is 6.6 megs and also the game is already at 3.1 when you download it on steam.. you can edit spellbook, etc.

Do not download this.

I am the one who made "manual patch 1f" transform into installer and that came with naming it 3.1 to keep it somewhat similar to it's official naming. Yet patches 1,2 and 3 were official and were bringing changes into gameplay while 3.1 does not. The reason we made that change was to make whole installation process simpler(people were forgetting to overwrite files while extracting them, or had no idea where their Sacrifice folder is located).

Now I can't tell if that specific installer wouldn't be really a virus and I do not recommend to install it because we are not providing official link to the patch anymore(as the private server is gone and there is no reason for using it)and anyone is free to do with the installer whatever he wants. So you have been warned.

Both GOG and Steam versions come with patch 3 already installed and that is all you need.

123 dude, GameSpy server died in 2013 or 2014, while private server died in 2015. In 2016 died sacrificeplanet.net.

In all cases money was a reason. Private server made one guy to pay higher bills for electricity because he had to provide server up 24/7. Everytime he got electricity cut the server was down for several days and even if it came back to life it needed another few days to be fixed for its gaming functionality. So we eventually told him to stop running it.

Sacrificeplanet died because the domain cost while website was barely used. So it died too. Hopefully that fixes this for you. I wish this thread could get closed

Thank you for the patch as well! I didn't really play sacrifice since 2001 but I recognise the importance of the work you and others like you put in the maintainment of old games.

Steam should let us award posts as well...
